Hello!

I guess this is where I post a hello thread.

My name says it all, I'm Ted from Georgia.  =)   Just kidding. I'm doing research on the Big Green Egg prior to our purchase. I have always considered them to be way too expensive, until my wife suggested that instead of getting another new grill, we get one of these. Then it seems like it's not so bad!

So I found these forums and wow...nice interactions, recipes and ...more recipes. Love it. I love to cook but have a lot to learn, so be prepared for questions galore.

So now I'll end this and post in another section about what I'm thinking of getting etc.

BTW, I'm in Elizabethtown KY if there are any others from this area.

John

Hi John!  Welcome.  The BGE is a jack-of-all-trades, and a master of some.  I don't have a lot of space, and my Large does a good job of pizzas, grilling, baking, roasting, and searing; and pretty good job of slow smoking (the dynamics of a slow smoke involve a lot of arguing, but I'm happy with what I've got).
    Enjoy!

John-are you going to the Everly Brothers Concert on Friday night?
Or the Food Insecurity Seminar at Duke?
  • Welcome to the party!

There are some shenanigans here as you've probably figured out by now, but there are also a lot of really great cooks and people willing to step up and help with any questions you have.  It's a great forum with great people, and the BGE is a great all-around, versatile smoker and grill.  Remember to take pictures of your cooks and post them up, because if there aren't any pictures ... it didn't happen!

Don't pay any attention to littlerascal here.  He seems to think you're my troll account, because my handle is JohnInCarolina and yours is JohnFromKentucky.   He also posted that reply after midnight, when I'm guessing he was well into the bourbon!

  • Coming from a person posting at 5:32 AM!  What were you drinking…or were you just catching up on your TROLL postings?
Yes you are always right.  Now if your troll postings can convince the “sheeple” of that, you have it made.

6:30AM -  I know this is a tough concept for you, but time zones are a thing that exist here in the US.

What was I doing?  I was drinking my first cup of coffee.  You might give that a try sometime, I hear it can help with a hangover.

  • @littlerascal56, I'm 57 and never really got into the Everly Brothers. I know they are famous here and from Central City, but there are better (in my opinion) musicians from KY. Chris Stapleton is top, but there is Dwight Yokum, and several others. While not from here, John Prine (RIP) is awesome.

But then again, I like the rock music much more.

Food Insecurity Seminar at Duke?!  I don't know her, but  Duke is the arch
villain! I bleed blue...Kentucky Wildcats blue!

I wish I was JohninCarolina in disguise because then I would not be freezing and watching ice form on my deck.

Oh no, you are a Kentucky fan.  I may have to retract my earlier welcome ;)
