I went to college in Fargo and I remember one a time recruiter from AZ telling me that I lived in the worst place in the US.  Humidity in the summer, wind chill in the winter.
But they don't have Chub's Pub in Arizona.
about 3 blocks south on University from our old house.  Which has now been razed for a large apartment complex.  Probably a good thing.
I'm not sure there's a bar in Fargo that has killed more brain cells than Chub's thanks to their then $2 long islands on Fridays.

There used to be a bar in Dinkytown that had $2 Long Islands every Thursday night. (The bar could be there for all I know yet) We spent many, many Thursdays there when we turned 21. Completely random source of information but at that same bar and after many Long Islands, I ended up singing karaoke with Blake Shelton one random night. (He was in town for a concert at the Minnesota State Fair and he stopped in after his show. I had my fair share of Long Islands that night but it was Mr. Shelton himself. Way before he went Hollywood)

Bemidji!  I'd spent many, many Leave days there, my last year on Active Duty.

I was passed over for promotion in '95, and because I was an officer I had to separate within the year.  I had a buttload of Annual Leave built up; at that time, if you took Leave adjacent to a weekend, you got charged the weekend days too (ie if I took one leave day on Friday, I got charged 3 days (Fri/Sat/Sun).  My boss felt the same way I did about me being passed over, so he approved all my Leave requests: Tues/Wed/Thurs!!, I just showed up on Mondays and Fridays.    He was just as stubborn as I was so I got away with it.

Once the weather warmed up I started going to Winnipeg, Canada or Bemidji, which was right next to Lake Bemidji State Park.  That park was a photography mecca for me, lots of deer, coyote and, in the spring, Showy Lady's Slippers in the peat bogs.  Very few people (probably because of the mosquitoes).  Those mid-week "weekends" helped me get thru a difficult year.

Thanks for the memory jog; I need to visit again this upcoming June.   :)

I think MOST of us understand! The worst I remember was turning 21 and dirty dancing with some dollie...and I'm SURE it wasn't Dollie Parton on a raised stage - but the bad thing was my ex-bil was there also getting sh*t faced but he remembered enough to tell my sister who told my parents - get my drift???

I guess i shouldn't have complained about scooping leaves out of the pool today when it was a  frigid 69F in Phoenix.  My back, knees and one elbow don't function properly when the temp is under 100F

The hotter the better for my aging joints!
