I use a lodge on my egg, stove top,  propane gas burner, gas grill, electric oven.

Outside is nicer than the inside...

I had the same problem with the inside of my pot. I used some cream of tartar to clean it up. It worked like a dream.

  • I think I used my Le Creuset DO on the Egg only a handful of times. The residue post-cook was pretty gnarly. I have read a few times from different sources that coating the outside of your enamel-coated DO with dish detergent makes the residue removal much easier. I have not tested this hypothesis for myself, but I thought I’d share regardless.

old boyscout trick for cooking over a campfire with the cook kit. we used softened ivory soap though, easier to pack in an old metal band-aide container

You would think that dish soap once heated might put off smoke and go into your meat??

Good point - I would not use that technique if you are doing something like no-knead bread.  But if you use the pot as something that holds food with water, like chili, that pot isn't going to get a much higher temp than the boiling point of water, and the soponified fatty acids in the soap ain't goin nowhere.

  • We have had a Lodge enameled cast iron since November, it was $70 and I love it. I don't think it has been in the egg yet but it will eventually get there.

I didn't even notice that.  Just a cool word I had not ever heard before.

There was a study released where one observation in alzheimer patients, post-mortem, was high levels of aluminum in their brain tissue.  That started a panic about aluminum.  But it's since been concluded that the aluminum levels are a symptom, not a cause.  We all eat pounds of aluminum a year, it's one of the most abundant materials in the earth's crust.

  • Buy a cheap Tramontina cast iron DO at a big box store for less than $50, put a piece of foil under the bottom and egg on.  Been using one for years and rarely ever have a problem with any baked on gunk.

Hey everyone I’ve been making a bad ass chili lately (Been following the mat church video on it). I’m looking to step up my game and buy a cast iron pot and maybe even a enameled one. I’m wondering have any of you guys used a enameled iron pot in an egg? Does it do any harm? They’re very expensive so before I possibly buy one I want to make sure everything good to go.
I've used my wife's enameled Lodge dutch oven several times, and the enamel doesn't chip off, but the smoke will discolor the enamel.  My wife got mad at me so I now use a non-enameled Grizwold.
