Bearded Butcher Blend Seasoning

I was excited to receive an assortment of their seasonings for Christmas. I tried the Hollywood today on some chicken legs and thighs that I did at 400 raised direct that turned out really nice with roasted potatoes and a skillet corn bread. Ok, back to the seasoning. I was disappointed that the chicken was pretty bland. I didn’t pre-season with S&P as I hit the chicken pretty heavy with the rub on both sides of the thighs and good coverage on the legs.  I was curious if others had tried Hollywood and what their results were. I’ll try it again and see if some S&P will help bring out the other spice flavors. I also have 5 other runs of theirs to try.

Never even heard of this rub.  Any details on the rub itself?  I like rubs without salt, allows me to season and salt to taste.  I fond adding salt definitely brightens the rubs, but a little goes a long way.

  • They run a butcher shop and meat processing business in Ohio. They have a you tube channel and they have interesting content. I posted a pic of the ingredients from the shaker.

Here is a link to that spice on their site.

Sounds good, but as a seasoning that is also recommended for mayo, aioli, and salsa I suspect you did not add enough seasoning to the ribs.  I have a similar rub I use from Oakridge BBQ called Dominator Rib Rub.  I have to very thoroughly and liberally coat the ribs with the seasoning.

  • Part of the fun in the journey is experimenting with new rubs, tools and techniques. I have some others in my gift pack that I'm going to try out over the next few weeks. I made a large Costco run and stocked up on chicken, hamburger, pork shoulder and........my first brisket.
