OT: A Extra Special Beagle

Not fishing for sympathy here, just a reminder to cherish all the moments you have with your pets.
We euthanized one the hounds on Sunday.  Ashleigh was a rescue dog estimated at 3 years old when we adopted her.  Before we got her she had been returned twice to the shelter due to her escape abilities, which were considerable.  She was on the smaller side of the 13" breed classification, but the most athletic of the 12 I've had over the years (including 15" class).  In her prime a 4' chain link fence was no obstacle at all.  Additionally, the only dog I've ever had that was a tree climber.  Possibly from her absolute hatred of squirrels.  Bunnies she'd go after for fun, squirrels were for blood sport.
We got a urethra cancer diagnosis about a month ago and judged none of the treatment options fair to her at 16 years old.  The time came when she was no longer able to urinate.  A truly merry hound until the end, always enthusiastic for any adventure and never an ounce of quit.  I will miss her dearly.

She's on the left here, around the first of the year, looking for trouble...
