Why don't we do away with categories and just have a race.  Anything goes.  Anyone can race.  Only requirement is you are enrolled in college.

Daily Mail: Trans UPenn swimmer Lia Thomas is CRUSHED twice in women's swim meet by transgender Yale competitor transitioning from female to male.

"But stunned parents at the meet gasped as Yale swimmer, Iszac Henig, easily beat out his opponents in the women's 100-yard freestyle, with a time of 49.57 seconds. Thomas, who finished fifth, finished with a time of 52.84 seconds. "

Saw it on the news.  No cultivation or searching required.  This is a rather big story within the world of college sports not named football and swimming.

Curious what part you think is so bad?

@Ozzie_Isaac - on a marginally dark and stormy Saturday night, there is no getting around the fact that the gender issue is lightening in a bottle.  As with all combustible issues, there is no easy answer or we would have figured it out by now.  Doesn't matter where you are on this issue, there will not be any solution that satisfies everyone.  So, sit back, relax and enjoy the show.
This hasn't gotten to horses yet?? =)
Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win.  Life is too short for light/lite beer!  Seems I'm livin in a transitional period.

Nope, Local rodeos/jackpots are pretty progressive.  There are traditional male/female events, but anybody can compete in any event (except roping), there are separate roping events.

    I didn’t really read it.

Either NBC or MSNBC.  I found the quotes about the latest meet online, but the news talked about the general controversy.

Why is it controversial?  I’m not sure I see what the big deal is.  This just seems like public bigotry against trans people, more than anything else.  The fact that it’s showing up in the Daily Mail only accentuates that.

Bigotry?  A person who grew up (like actual growth) with the aid of large amounts of testosterone is competing in a physically competitive sport against people who did not have the aid of testosterone.  Believe it or not, chromosomes effect physical growth and thus abilities.  This is why sports have male and female teams.  Evens the playing field.  How is that bigotry?  Did I say they shouldn't be accepted for who they are?  No.  I am commenting on the apparent unfair physical advantage as shown by the absolute crushing of records regularly by a single person.  In simple terms it is like allowing steroids in competitive sports.

Which swimmer in this article, in your view, is the one who grew up with large amounts of testosterone?  I am assuming you're referring to Lia Thomas, who, as the article indicates... actually lost her races to someone who currently does not have any of that testosterone in their system?

@JIC, thank you for the offline discussion.

I agree, the article I choose did a poor job of promoting and honest and frank discussion.  It was designed for controversy and I should have chosen a better article, or just left the whole topic alone.

No worries.  And just to be clear, when I wrote above about bigotry, I was specifically referring to the article itself, not to you.  From our offline discussion, it is clear to me that you don't hold anything against trans people.

I'm totally fine with individuals finding and pursuing their gender because they have gender dysphoria, but if that conversion involves banned performance enhancing drugs they should follow the same rules everyone else does with competitive sports.

Sports is one area where the bigots attack transgender people because they have an intrinsic physiological advantage, and, frankly, I think it sets back our society's acceptance of transitioning individuals.

I know this antithetical what most would consider my normal "libtard" tendencies, but I'm on the side of moving us forward past institutional bigotry and trying to reduce the talking points for any drunk uncles out there.

I am fine with adults, 18 and over, transitioning. I just think that they shouldn’t compete in their new sexes sports until their transition is over and their testosterone is in the female typical range.

I want to thank everyone for being respectful in stating their opinions and views.  This is a difficult subject and I know I do not have any answers.  I set the stage with a pretty **** article about a very complex subject.  You all give me hope for us yet.

I should not have posted the article, but I learned a lot and had some really good discussions.
