    Ouch!

Two local supermarkets here have AA (not sure if that's equivalent to your choice or select) prime rib roast for CAD 6.88/lb, not bad. NZ leg of lamb is CAD 4.49/lb

But I'm smoking MSM as I type, after 10-day cure + overnight rinse/recoat. To be pulled at 165 IT and fridged, then gently steamed about 4 hrs till IT 200 for Friday dinner. No brainer as far as service time goes, and no dreaded all nighter. Better tasting than regular brisket is just gravy/cherry on top  =)

Meat prices are ridiculous. That's pretty much why I have a few freezers. When that stuff goes on sell, we stock up.

$19.99/pound for prime ribeyes @ Costco yesterday.

$81.16 for three freaking ribeyes. Crazy price, but they are so perfectly marbled that I couldn't resist.

Maybe not.  Tofu prices have skyrocketed to $2.99/lb.

Whole, in bag, choice rib roast, $6.77/lb. at Safeway.  Got a 22lb.er and split it to give half to our daughter's family.
Took the large end (our half) and removed the ribs first, leaving some meat on them.  Next, removed the cap in one piece, then cut the rib eyes about 1-1/2" thick.  Very happy with the number and quality of meals we'll get from this.

At Kroger yesterday there were rib roast, maybe choice, that cost more than my week's grocery bill. If I screw up a $20.00 cut of meat I would cuss a little, but if I blew it on $150.00 roast I would be upset. Just me of course.

Kroger has choice beef rib roasts at $7.97/lb in this area.  FYI-  There were a couple that looked good but the family wants ham this Xmas so I passed.  Got a few in the deep freeze.
BTW-Related, SRF has not raised their brisket prices in several years.  Hot ticket item as right now all their black and gold grade briskets are sold out. When they get them in, on around a weekly basis, they are gone in a day or so.  Turns out the demand is driving the shortage, not a supply issue.

  • Publix in middle Tennessee (franklin) is selling whole rib roast for 6.79lb.... I’m not a fan of prime rib, so we just have the Publix butcher take off the rib bones, and cut the roast into ribeye steaks.... so we end up getting ribeye steaks and beef back ribs for 6.79lb (that’s pre covid prices for us).

sale at Publix ends dec 24.

I have to admit, I've bought steaks at my local Publix that were not nearly as good as a bologna sandwich. Given the choice between a low-grade steak and bologna, I'll take the bologna.

Just bought a Standing Rib Roast for 5.97/lb .... To big for my vacuum sealer bags, so I kept it as tight as I could in the butcher paper and wrapped the jeebus out of it with saran wrap and put in the freezer.  Hope that works.

I plan to cook it around New Years, this was an impulse buy.  Hard to pass up a beautiful 4bone roast for $50.

Dry/wet aging beef in your window is a flavour enhancer.  FWIW-
BTW- my impulse buys are on-line SRF promo driven many times.   =)

You make a great point. Maybe I will toss it in fridge after Christmas Prime Rib comes out.
