Joetisserie Fail

I’ve done several very successful turkey cooks on the BGE with the Joetisserie and I think I finally found it’s size limit.  We cooked a second thanksgiving on Saturday with 18.5lb bird and the motor couldn’t spin it all the way.  It tried and tried but I think the bird was just too much for it...  luckily we were able to quickly convert the egg back to indirect and still had a good bird!

The bigger the protein, the more important it is to have it balanced on the rod. My Weber Kettle rotisserie kit came with counter balance piece to help with this problem.

i don't have a joetisserie, but I have used a rotisserie and I believe this is the answer. I would have just clicked "Agree", but...

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

I would have clicked “Agree” with you saying you would have clicked “Agree.”  In fact, I didn’t notice how much I tended to click “Agree” until I could no longer click it.  I’m sure you agree.

  • If we can’t get the Agree button back, can we have a Concur button?

It may just be me, with my middle school brain, but the 5th paragraph of that article just sounded naughty…

I don’t have a JoeTiss, but I do have and use a Air Fryer with a rotisserie. I found very early on how to balance a fryer yard bird on that spindle without using a magnet crutch, Just figure out the weight location and rebalance it quickly before it gets too HOT!

I've used vice grips on the spit as a counterweight.

I don’t necessarily think this would work.  The end of on the joetisserie rod is fairly short and does not extend through the egg.

The rod doesn’t go through the egg.  Thered be nothing to clamp.
