Onion on the coals

Good Morning! I read somewhere here that an onion was put on the fire for cooking/smoking on the BGE. Please explain, this is a new one to me .

I put red onions amongst the coals, you can't really go wrong.  The outer layer will burn/char but the inside will be unaffected.  
Sweet peppers the same but they don't need long at all.

Besides turkey and chicken I also have used the onion trick with pork butts as well!

I’ll say, I had never thought of that but after this thread I had to.   Fired up the Egg for a Tri tip.   I had neighbors out with the aroma coming out.   

Tri tip wasn’t on too long at 400F to absorb much but did a bit.
