My daisy wheel was all gunked up, so I put it inside the egg during a short burn off. It now seems a bit red and rusty, instead of the nice black I was expecting. It moves very easily now compared to before.
Did I screw this up? Any way to get back the black finish, or do I need to buy a replacement?
Cheers,
David

David, it's fine. Season it with some fat/oil and put it in the egg when it's hot (under 500F) to polymerize the oil and you'll get a nice black finish and some protection against corrosion. Repeat every now and then to maintain the seasoning.

What about using evapo-rust on the daisy wheel to get it clean first? and then re-seasoning it?
