See below. Brine calls for 4 quarts of hot water. Then it says add ice to bring to one gallon. Wait isn't there 4 quarts in a gallon?

@SmokeyLosAngeles no problem...here is the answer after checking with the cook on this recipe. "Place in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours until well chilled"

Or better yet just make double the amount of brine, but use half of it as cold water or ice.Throw it all in a cooler and forget about it for the desired time.-FATC1TY

I don't worry about ice cubes. I let it cool, but then throw in the mostly still frozen bird. Now that's an ice cube.
