Curious as well I have never heard of it but a honey syrup recipe calls for equal parts honey and water.Botch said:What exactly is "honey syrup"? Wiki is indeterminant.South of Columbus, Ohio. -
Isn't that just diluted honey?JohnInCarolina said:

Lol. But “honey syrup” sounds so much more elevated.caliking said:

I don’t know, is “simple syrup” just diluted sugar?caliking said:

Straight honey would probably be a bit too viscous to mix up well/quickly in a cold cocktail."I've made a note never to piss you two off." - Stike

Add more water and you will have mead eventuallySouth of Columbus, Ohio.

Why do you guys need to mess with a standard?
At least give it a new name for your own variation.

I believe honey syrup is honey diluted with water. Honey by itself won’t mix and just clump up in the drink. Slightly watering it down allows you to mix it in a drink

I like a whiskey sour with a few drops of angustura bitters floating on the egg white head. Another variation is to use amaretto instead of simple syrup. Really tasty that way alsoI like my butt rubbed and my pork pulled.

I don’t even know why I’m on this path…
Another Gold Rush. Initial versions were a touch sweet for me, so went with bourbon 2.5 parts. Garnished with Oakridge BBQ Habanero Death Dust. The possibilities are endless…

@caliking: Sounds like it would work well. I’m loving seeing your various concoctions.

Subbed spiced rum for the bourbon/whiskey, and it was also good. It may be better with lime juice, though.
Thought I should mention that this stuff is quite good:
Volcano Bursts Organic Italian 100% Organic Lemon Juice In Glass Bottle, 33.8 oz | Pack of 1 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XYVXV4Q/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apan_glt_fabc_0VA4ESEVTN3SVF99ZHKC?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Tastes just like fresh lemon juice, and lasts for quite a while in the fridge. I always have some on hand for baking, and the occasional cocktail.#1 LBGE December 2012 • #2 SBGE February 2013 • #3 Mini May 2013A happy BGE family in Houston, TX. -
I’ve bought that before, agree, it’s good. You can usually find it at Costco.caliking said:

You should try a cocktail glass, it might be just me, but I don’t like whiskey out of metal unless I’m camping or in the pool.THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER -
I'll have to keep an eye out for it. I'll bet its way cheaper at Costco.Legume said:

And, agree... neat scotch/whiskey always goes in glass. I figure with cocktails, the other ingredients will kill some of the nuance of the brown water, so steel tumbler is good enough. Plus, just plain lazy

bump.
Whiskey sour recipe (subbed maple syrup for the simple syrup) + yuzu paste 1/4 tsp. Shake with ice. Pretty damn good.
I need to clean it up and try it with vodka vs. gin + lime juice. Maybe some grated ginger.
No pics. Because all y'all know what a steel cup looks like by now.#1 LBGE December 2012 • #2 SBGE February 2013 • #3 Mini May 2013A happy BGE family in Houston, TX. -
I’m intrigued with the cayenne garnish. I wish I hadn’t used the last of the bourbon making egg nogs.Flint, Michigan
