OT- Do You Send Christmas Cards?

Ever since we’ve been married, we’ve sent family photo type Christmas cards to a bunch of people.  Wilma wants to keep it up, Or maybe it’s my MIL bugging her to keep doing it.  I’m not sure.  I think it’s passé.  Most other folks do too judging by the number of cards that hit our mailbox compared to how many we send.  Besides, I can think of better ways to blow a couple hundred bucks.

She wants to get started this weekend   Do you send them?

no, im the drunk that makes the calls =)  if you dont pickup, i come over.  i dont see any use in the xmas cards, the happiest looking family type cards seem to come from those that are miserable, its a dead giveaway

We struggle with this every year. Well, I should say I struggle.

My wife has abandon all involvement. I still do it but the send/receive ratio and the timing of some of the received cards tells me that one, fewer folks are doing it and two, some only send one once they receive ours.

On the family picture/story of our year cards, I agree. I don't need an essay detailing how awesome your fkng kids are when I know your life is a shatshow.

Great question-  We still do it primarily for those who are "one touch a year and still alive" friends from far and wide over many decades.  We keep the note, either hand-written or a two para letter to a minimum.  Focus on doing well health-wise and perhaps a noteworthy event.  On both sides of the equation we have served up fewer and received fewer but also not with the uptick in email connectivity.  The clock moves ever forward.

Yes I do. Family, friends, survivors I've met.
A Christmas card is a small price to pay to let someone know your thinking about them as well.

  • Perhaps we’ll buy some cards to send out and limit the list.  The big expense is the photo card.  Who wants to see a photo of my ugly face show up in their mailbox anyway?

I send E-cards, usually Jacquie Lawson's. My wife does send 'real' cards to some people. I never cared for the family photo full page brag list type cards. No offense. My father used to start doing cards in calligraphy around June, because it took so long.

Now I send Photoshop printed cards with my favorite dog's picture.

  • We never included a boring year summary letter.  We just went with a Christian design postcard type photo and mailed that.  Wilma was in charge of producing the card.  I am merely a figurehead.

  • The wife does it every year.  I just agree to whatever she wants when it comes to this sort of thing.
