Like you, we are in a high humidity area. Everything rusts and rots.
But Darian if your home is 100 years old I'd say it must have "good bones"!

Wow Photo Egg, I've never seen a post generate more miss-the-point responses! This must be a record. And so confident too.

Sorry I can't help, but I like stone instead of wood outdoors.
The biggest and most common misinformation I see is when a member asks a question specific to the XL and it's answered by people that do not own or have never cooked on the XL.lol
Ohhh, and responding to someone's beautiful food post by saying I would never eat that because it has too much fat, salt or calories.
Well, there go my posts for the next month.

Just putting this out there, but a trip to thisoldhouse.com and a search for "porch paint" turns up interesting reading.

I don't like porches.  Or paint.

Behr Ultra is the top rated exterior house paint on CR.  It's an "oil" enamel.  They don't test porch paint specifically.  I don't know who to trust on the web, but I would think that formula for decks is very similar.  It's a "recommended buy".

Maybe more important is making sure you paint it when it's dry and stays dry until it cures and the temp is in the recommended range.
    Thanks again!
So far, I'm leaning towards the Behr Oil Base.
Agree on waiting for a good weather day. Like you, we are in a high humidity area. Everything rusts and rots.
Sorry.  I thought you wanted advice.
you really just wanted to be told what to buy without understanding why.

    My mistake.

    Hahaha

Looking for someone with a good recommendation on paint.
Replacing the wood on my front covered porch with 5/4” tongue and groove wood boards.
Anyone have a good recommendation for a brand of paint? Is oil based still the best option?
    Thanks in advance.

Sorry for posting again, but Off Topic side of this forum just doesn’t see much action.

    To be more specific.
What I need to paint are the actual porch deck boards that you walk on. It’s a covered porch but I do not need to paint the ceiling.
I know Sherwin Williams makes great house paint. Unfortunately their porch board paint gets terrible reviews.

If you will let me know the specifics on the wood you have purchased, I may be able to help you select what may be the solution for your question.

99.99% of all paint issues are 2 things:
    1) Improperly prepared substrate for whatever reason.
    2) poor though cure for whatever reason.

Matching the coating type to substrate type is fundamental, environment and application procedures are secondary. Like a tool for a job, a 3/4 inch socket used to saw a plastic pipe will ultimately end in failure.

I have done some work with wood coatings many years ago, both architectural and marine, but have since moved on to metallurgical and exotic niche applications. I can do some research and perhaps provide a system that may be ideal for your application needs.

The most successful applications result from outstanding preparation.

PM me if you would like.

    Stay safe and stay well.
