91% isopropyl alcohol is BACK

Contrary to some eggers I do like to have 91% on hand when I really need to get my egg fire up fast. Only problem is it goes BOOM when it ignites so you have to be QUITE careful. I just squirt some on the lump, strike a “wooden kitchen match” stand way back and throw it in. DAMN near an explosion!

Ever since the pandemic started then 91 & 93% have been impossible to find as the companies making hand sanitizer gobbled up the market!

Today I found some 1 quart bottles at Wally World. Now with 2 bottles that should last my need for HOT and FAST fires for some time.

Isopropyl alcohol is poisonous and therefore not allowed in hand sanitizer.   FWIW

That said, it is used for other types of sterilization.

Actually, after researching it, isopropyl alcohol is acceptable by the FDA for hand sanitizer.   I stand corrected.  It and ethanol are the only two alcohols that are acceptable.   You are right, Ron!

LOL - Oh boy...and here we live about 30 miles from one of the LARGEST ethanol alcohol producers in the USA and I never checked what a drug store clerk told me, and then you corrected THAT and then YOU corrected yourself!

I'm headed to bed before I get MORE confused LOL!!!

True story...what got me hooked on using an accelerant was a 1.75 liter of Ever Clear that I had purchased years ago for some reason that escapes me. Anyway - in order to use it rather than just pitch it I started lighting my fire with it until gone! Now 91% is far far cheaper.

@RRP you bought it back in July of 2016 after a recommendation from @WeberWho as a substitute for 91% and you paid $47.  Lol.

OK - I didn't remember the "why" but I did remember the "$47" which the better half didn't know. After all what is a better way of destroying a stupid move than to burn it up?

Jello shots made out of everclear are like sterno.  And they burn going in both directions.

buy a bottle of this and store in the freezer, serve in a small aperitif style glass on sunday mornings. the everclear mixed with lemon peel and sugar stored for 6 months makes this. some are too sweet, the villa massa is just about right

Not that I drink anymore, but just the sight of an everclear bottle makes me want to hurl.  Everclear is loaded with contaminants, my guess is fusel oils/alcohols.

used to make 55 gallon barrels filled with punch, one of the ingredients was everclear. used to see lots of hurling clear thru the next day.  things really got going if i opened a bottle of pepperoncinis for breakfast in the morning.

Whenever a recipe calls for Everclear I sub in vodka. That stuff just doesn't smell food safe, more like an industrial solvent.

I really was just joking.  I wouldn’t recommend to anyone actually trying to make those.

Back in my college days I did once make a batch of jell-o shots out of Devil Springs vodka.  I had more than my fair share of them.  I don’t remember much from that evening but I’ve been told that at some point I was just crawling around on the dorm room floor, unable to stand and jabbering gibberish.   Ah... college!

I tried making them in college once with everclear.  Couldn't get them to turn to jello.  Was just red everclear.  I think I used too much everclear and not enough water...

speaking of Apple Pie . . . I made a batch of Hoss's AP and took it to 1 of the OKC's eggfest.  Boy did I get some dirty looks from some company reps that had to drive back to Dallas that night!   =)

You have to cut it with water to legit make jello. I don’t know where the line is but I’m sure we pushed it with the Devil Springs.
