Good Lord.  Is there another sporting event that pays the guy who came in *15th* a couple hundred grand?

I'm not aware of any other tourney that actually pays players who miss the cut.

I have always said, "shoot par golf every tournament round and you will do quite well. "
You should look at how the prize money has skyrocketed in the past two decades; by around a factor of 4.5 or so.
However, that prize money as a solo contractor pales in comparison to the guaranteed $$
    MLB players get.
Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win.  Life is too short for light/lite beer!  Seems I'm livin in a transitional period.

The tennis tourneys in the grand slam pay players that make it to the round of 16 in the neighborhood of $200K. Total pool of prize money in something like the US Open tennis tourney was over $50million last year so many times more than the Masters prize pool.

Safe to assume this is divided between the men and women, singles and doubles? My guess is the men's singles purse is $20 million or less.
