Smokeware Cap Install

Friends, I need help removing the grease and residue buildup on the outside of the top vent, so I can put on the gasket for the new smokeware cap that I got.  

Smokeware suggested a rag and alcohol, which I tried, and is very slow go.  

Any tips or tricks?

Putty knife and elbow grease, or Easy Off oven cleaner and rags to sop up the mess.

Acetone. Wear gloves.

Apply the gasket to the inside of the cap....boom!

Just be aware that with a little use that nice shiny cap along with that pristine white gasket will get yucky and clogged from the creosote. This picture isn't real clear of the inside of my cap with the gasket applied inside, but when you go to clean it in a few months you'll find Easy Off oven cleaner is your best solution and quickest.


But it will clean up - though the gasket will not.
