OT: Electrical related question

I have this panasonic exhaust fan.   I would like to install a wall switch to make the speed variable.  From what I understand I cannot use a light dimmer switch or it can damage the motor.   There are also ceiling blade fan controllers which apparently are not safe to use for an exhaust fan.   What type of switch exactly should I be looking for?   I know there is a specific term or terms of specs and technologies I am supposed to look for or avoid such as TRIAC, shaded pole, etc but would like some clarification.
