This is not my cook.  I'm posting this because I have a few questions (at the end).
Been watching a lot of videos from "Sam the Cooking Guy" on EweTube.  He's just a seat-of-the-pants cook, but so much fun.  He swears like a sailor from Brooklyn (ooh yeah, DANGER DANGER DANGER WILL ROBINSON, NSFW, NSFH, MANY SWEAR WORDS YOU'VE BEEN WARNED YOU'RE GOIN' TO HELL!!!!), spills everything, burns his mouth almost every time, cuts himself occasionally, has a snarky sense of humor (like his sons who video/edit him) and every recipe I've tried has been good, so far.  His early videos, shot in The World's Most Gaudy Kitchen, aren't that good but his later, outdoor ones are fun as hell.

(he posted a video of him making a NY-style pizza, and he was so, so proud of his new 18" pizza pan, carefully assembled his pie, so damn proud, put it into his small oven... and the door wouldn't close.  His Brooklynese (DANGER DANGER DANGER!) came out in spades, and he and his camera guys took the elevator with the raw pie to the street, ran down the block, and barged into a small hot dog restaurant to use their oven.  I had tears running down my cheeks it was so funny)

Here he does a turkish kebab thing, horizontally, with a kamado rotisserie (it's not an Egg, but could be adapted).  Bet it was delicious.  My questions:

1.  Has anyone here done a similar horizontal cook on the Egg, with your Joetisserie?  How did it come out?
2.  Can anyone identify the kamado in this video?  The rotisserie hole in the side of the bowl, and the lump "side basket", are pretty sweet.
3.  What kind of bit would I use to drill a hole in one of my Eggs?  Asking for a friend actually that guy hates me.
4.  I moved to the intermountain west to escape the mosquitoes, the gnats, and most of the flies.  Does San Diego really have that many flies?

    Looks like this grill

    Specs call for rotisserie

If you/your friend decide to drill all you need is a masonry bit. The ceramic is fairly soft.  I would go with a larger hole so you could insert a steel sleeve because I bet the hole in just ceramic would waller out pretty quick by itself.

This guy really needs to wash his hands more. Good Lort the amount of raw chicken goo he was spreading around.  Lol

  • He’s been on local tv for a while in San Diego.  About 8 or 10 years ago my wife and I went to a cooking “class” taught by him.  It was really fun and he’s just like he is on tv/yt.

And not a huge fly population in San Diego that I know about.  But YMMV...

I’ve wanted a vertical charcoal spit for pastor/doner/shwarma, it has always seemed I’ll need to build my own. Plenty of electric and gas models.  You’re inspiring me to restart the quest.

  • Botch I just watched the video and it’s a lot of fun.  The chicken sounds great too.

Botch, I'm all for hacks/mods and trying new stuff, but I'm going to suggest that you don't drill a hole in your egg, unless you plan on making ALOT of doner kebab.

Don't worry, I'm too lazy to do most of the crazy things I come up with.

However, I've been eyeing my small ceramic flower box...  ;)
