Maybe the compromise would be for everyone to drive on the right and we could teach our kids the metric system, but not actually use it.

so you guys drive the wrong direction on a rotary, the wrong side of the road, please tell me you mixed the pedals up in the car as well and drive with the gas pedal on the left. remembering driving in the abacos the wrong way then discovering the gas tank was the front bumper

Almost everything is metric now apart from miles, pints in the pub and height / weight measurements. Engineering is all metric, although some items are converted imperial sizes, like beams and columns.

Cars are fine. On old motorbikes, the UK standard was shifter on the right, brake on the left (opposite to now). Some Italian too, I had a Morini with right foot shift. That had the (now) standard 1 down, 3 or 4 up pattern whereas the old Brit bikes had 1 up, 3 or 4 down.

You get used to switching pretty quickly, I have LHD and RHD manual cars plus an Audi DCT auto and an electric car.

I didn't realize that was the case for Japan.  I typed "Tokyo traffic" into Googlez Imagez and had trouble finding a pic of traffic in both directions; looks like most of the roads (in Tokyo anyway) are one-way.

    And back to buying things.
I wasn't going to even go to Amazoid for their two-day "Black Friday" sales.  Then Monday I noticed the ring on top of my Echo was throbbing yellow.
Me:  "Alexa, what's the flashing yellow?"
Alexa:  "You have a message or notification awaiting."
    Me:  "Play my notifications."
    Alexa:
    Me:  "Alexa, play my notifications."
Alexa:  "You have an item in your Cart that is on sale; say "Purchase" to purchase it."
    Me:  "Dammit."
Alexa:  "Hey, bezosebub is flying to space, give us your moneyyyyy!"

So, I now have yet another $27 cookbook, for $16, and bezosebub is flying to space.   :|

    I went crazy.

Bike helmet because the electric bike parts shipped (only have motorcycle helmets).  The electric addition will make it haul-ass. $21

Pair of 100 watt LED floods IP65 to replace the two 250 watt halogen lights that come on at night at the shop.  will save me money. $35

23andme health screening and all the usual DNA testing.  Dr recommended doing the test for health screen markers, it would probablycost me (and my insurance) a grand.  half price $99  (little apprehension that I'm not completely human on this one)

Jackhammer - shop is flooded and I'm sick of it flooding, need to put in a sump.  My demolition hammer is not working and the price of this is less than 2 days of rental. $145

This drill attachment pot/car/everything scrubber kit, seemed cool and was 12 bucks.  https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07P7NFV1F/ $12

2-pack of Midland GMRS radios w/2-mile range for $19.99

    3D printer for $139.99

The GMRS radio is up to 22 miles.  Also, one of us needs to get an FCC license which is $35/10 years (good for whole family)  Anyway, was just thinking it might be useful if the infrastructure fails like it did after Katrina.  Or a zombie apocalypse or something.

Prepper.  I just buy Bitcoin.  When the infrastructure fails I’ll be the one with the money and can buy whatever I want.

Hopefully you didn't buy it when it was $60k because you would have lost 28k per bitcoin.

    Yep. Clockwise. I stand corrected.

    A miracle I didn’t kill anyone.

Back on topic. Bought a whole four pack of some double-A lithium batteries.

There you go.  Back on track.

My Prime Day haul was lackluster.  I really didn't find anything I wanted, but I was happy that a few things I would normally buy were on sale.

First, I always buy a $40 e-gift-card because they give you $10 for doing it. The $10 comes after prime day. But, still.

    • Leave in thermometer, just a cheap one as I am hard on them.
    • Vacuum sealer bags
    • Rented a movie cheap.
    • Added Showtime to my Prime video.
    • Electric (corded) leaf blower / motorcycle dryer.  I don't have any leaves to move, but I wash a motorcycle a lot.
    • Bluetooth headset for a friend.
    • Fire starter blocks
    • Ring Doorbell.  This was my only "splurge".  Ordered through Alexa and saved an additional $10.
I spent about $120 when all was said and done.

Those things are great!  The engineers who wanted it find all sorts of things to make with them including phone holders and tapper handles.  Unfortunately, we don't make phones or beer....

Have you ever had success with the Midlands, or similar? I haven't tried a set for years but the last set I tried advertised some enormous range, but I couldn't get a 1/4 of it even across water. I'm trying to find a good 5 mile through anything set, but am reluctant to try again. I would be using these in treed areas

You will have problems at that wavelength with trees, buildings, etc.   Probably your best bet would be CB.  If there's a repeater you can use (you might have to pay a nominal fee or join a club), that can give you great range.  Alternatively, antennas are everything...you can get a high gain antenna, best if you get a mobile that sticks on your car/truck roof.

Question I always had, maybe @lkapigian would know....

I see loin on sale all the time.  Almost no fat on it.  Seems to me that, since it's easy to cube lean loin for the grinder, doing the math and mixing, say, your fat with ninety something percent fat free loin would be a really easy way to quality control some sausage.  Question is, would the loin meat suffer quality in the sausage over, say, shoulder?  (Shoulder takes some work to separate the fat from meat, etc)

    You WANT fat in sausage.

Otherwise you are making fat-free sausage, which you surely can do. But texture will be mealy, with less flavor and moisture.

    Bought three bags of this.
    Used to be 9.99/20#

Now 12.97 for 15# is a “good deal”

had me rolling in the aisles. Hence the sideways pic

@nolaegghead  Sometimes we will grind up a whole pig when making sausage.  As long as you get the overall meat/fat ratio, go to a normal to fine grind (opposed to a large grind) and mix well - you are good to go.

Using shoulder is just easier because you do not have to think or calculate how much fat you need to find and add.

Your theory, in my personal experience, holds true.

Curious to hear what the sausage king says. :)

@nolaegghead ,I prefer it that way especially if you have access to good hard fat back..butts are great and produce excellent sausage, salami. But fat back IMO is supetior to intramuscular ( sp) fat and you don't have to deal with the sinewy connective stuff....ill hand seam a butt for this reason, but lean meat plus hard fat = good results

Correct.  I would only go fat-free if I'm making snack sticks...and I add some fat to them anyway at the expense of shelf-life (quality, not safety)
