Jamaican Meat Pies

I always loved these in Jamaica and decided to give it a try. Flavor was great, I was a bit inconsistent in rolling out the dough so some were just right and some were a tad bit too thick. Would definitely do again.

Looks good! But as a semi Jamaican, you gotta call dem patties! =)

Where did you frequent in Jamaica, tastee or juici beef? I am a tastee fan, but would turn none down. There is a Jamaican place here in park city Utah called 11 haus that makes the best patties. Better than being there IMO.
@cookingdude555 I’ve been to Jamaica three or four times, wonderful country with super nice people and food. I’ll be in Park City this fall (hopefully!), thanks for the top on 11 Haus.

Nice first try!  I love Jamaica!!  Had jerk chicken at Scotchies and was surprised at how mild it was compared to the stuff here in the US?  Don't get me wrong it was delicious.  Scotchies is considered authentic there lol On another trip I had some jerk chicken cooked in an earthen hole over pimento wood (just before a rafting trip down the Great River).  Now that was amazing!

Need to try this. Roommate in college was originally from Jamaica and his mom would bring these all the time. I always called them beef pop tarts.

You sound well traveled.  I agree, Jamaicans are very kind people.  If I could, I would want to retire there someday.

You will love 11 hauz.  When my wife and I go, she only gets the patties, they are fantastic.  I have had the stew peas, oxtail, jerk chicken, and curry chicken there and they are all excellent.  My one gripe on the stew peas is there is no protein in them, they are sold as "vegan" (they kind of have to play to the Park City crowd I think).  Thanks for the link, I have never made patties, will have to give it a try sometime.

    Thanks @CPARKTX2 !!!

Tried the recipe today and it is legit.  I prepared the dough 2 days ago and did everything else today.  I baked indoor but definitely something that would be great on the egg!  The beef that I used was coarse ground beef and the texture of the beef in the patties that I am used to is more fine/“paste” like so I think that I will try a run in the food processor either before or after baking.  Recipe is a keeper, SWMBO loved it.  Too mild for me but I will add hot sauce because everyone else loved it.

@paqman Glad you tried it. I dipped mine in a Jamaican scotch bonnet pepper sauce to kick it up a notch, but my wife isn’t too keen on spicy foods.
