We got tested yesterday at a rapid test site. It was crazy busy with families getting tested it took about 2.5 hours with an appointment. Both of my brothers arent in driving distance so their families are staying put but we are driving down to my parents for a couple days so it will be 6 of us total. I know it isnt 100% safe but we have been quarantining and got tested so we should be good. Plus theres not many cases where we are or where we are going.

If you ask Elon Musk (aka Space Karen) about those rapid tests he's not very complimentary.

It was crazy watching the guy walk the results over to cars. Most people were high fiving then the poor couple that got their results right before us you could tell atleast one was positive. They were clearly not happy and then went on with like 10 minutes of questions while a line of people were waiting to get tested and get their results. The place we went to it says the rapid tests they use are 99% accurate. I do think it varies based on the type of test they use.

My thoughts aren't about eating people, if that's the question.  That said, killing grandma isn't worth it.

Because you can test negative for two weeks after contracting it I wouldn't feel comfortable partying with family outside my pod unless everyone quarantined for 2 weeks then passed a test.

SWMBO should be in the first group to get the vaccine which will take some heat off the possibility she brings it home from the hospital, but that's still who-knows-when.

But hey, if you believe it's a hoax and it kills you, IMO the world is probably no worse off with you gone.  Buh-bye.

Only seeing my in-laws tonight that we’ve kept in our little covid circle throughout the summer due to other circumstances. 8 people total; my wife’s brother, his wife and their two kids.

No parent or grandparents which blows but hoping they are around for the next Thanksgiving. My grandfather just beat bladder cancer again this year, finished treatments in August. Really wish we could be with them and they only live a couple miles away but not worth the risk.

As far as a party, I have a rib roast drying in the fridge which I will be cooking on the egg tomorrow while drinking heavily. Since tomorrow is just my wife and kids there won’t be anyone around to embarrass my wife in front of. I may post some BS on here though, apologies in advance.
  • Thought this was funny.  Not condoning big parties but .....

Tough situation- my parents are in their early 80’s and are okay skipping Thanksgiving, but not so much missing the grandkids on Christmas. Although we talk on the phone frequently, they feel like they are missing out on too much as this keeps lingering. I keep telling them how my kids would be impacted if they unwittingly passed along the virus and there were bad consequences.  They say missing out on the kids lives is not worth the price paid. So trying to figure out an option to be as safe as possible. Time will tell

This brings the "struggle" into so much more focus, for me, than the "nobody can tell me what to do!" threads elsewhere.
Thank you, @Wolfpack; and good luck on whatever happens.    :|

Yup, pretty messed up when burning and looting your town is cool, but having dinner w/ your family is illegal.
