The hills and mountains are my gym and since I start work at 5am I prefer later sunsets so I can hit the trails after work.

At least this year I am working from home so without a commute I’ll be able to scoot out before the 4pm darkness hits.
  • My dog votes pick one and stick with it. I like standard time myself.

I don't care for the time changes. heard excuses like children waiting on a bus before school in the dark. Farmers needing to work the fields. Bull crap! We can certainly change the time school begins and I am quite sure the farmers will get out to take care of the fields at the best light for them no matter what time the clocks say. We don't need to mess with the clocks.

For the kids sake (not you guys, the little ones)....I think it is good to have the morning daylight for catching the bus and safety. For all the other reasons discussed already, I really don't care one way or the other. A minor convenience / inconvenience to me.

grades 1 to 5 here have an adult with their kid when the bus picks them up and at drop off. no adult at drop off and the kid is brought back to the school

  • I work in databases all day with time stamps everywhere.  My opinion will be weird, I think everyone should use only one time zone, UTC.  When someone says 10AM, everyone in the world knows exactly what that means.  For some people it is morning, others it is nighttime.  It solves all kinds of electronic issues converting/interpreting timestamps between massively connected systems.  But the big point is my first, consistent understanding of time across the globe.

I like that idea, although it would never fly, and think about how it would make things weird based on their geographical region, like Dolly Parton's Nine to Five song....

yep, totally agree.  I expected your DB background to understand, but the rest of the world will not get it.

People across the globe that have a need for a common time zone already have one and have been using it for decades. Many industries (e.g. aviation, shipping) rely on Zulu/GMT/UTC for the bulk of their operations. That usage is fine for an industry where movement is not really tied to the usual day/night cycles that most humans function within.

For most folks that need or want to work during daylight hours and sleep during nighttime hours universal use of a single time zone poses obvious difficulties.

China is a country about as wide as the continental US yet they use just one time zone and they seem fine. Maybe that would work in the US. Probably not.

I prefer that it's dark when I get to work and light later into the evening.

@lousubcap is there an end to this poll or will you keep tabulating until a lawsuit stops you?

No endpoint in sight as this is the low-rent pedestrian poll to give all  a reason to express an uncolored (perhaps a bit optimistic) opinion regarding life as it was on November 1 2020 (at least for most of us).   =)
Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win.  Life is too short for light/lite beer!  Seems I'm livin in a transitional period.
