OT: Another Cannonball Record Set

I always find this kind of thing fascinating for some reason:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GOWn1WSYhVQ

Maybe it's because I've driven across a good part of the country myself, sometimes at speeds that might exceed the local limit.  Hypothetically.

But the planning that goes into it appeals to me too.  All the thought that goes into rigging the car, planning the route, getting help from spotters, etc.   And then there's always a wrinkle or two that comes up that they didn't anticipate.

Anyway, things have come a long way since these guys:

That's so very cool. I have done a few beach runs like that in the wee hours but never anything like that. 168 on the open road is a rush for sure.

In 1964, I was on the HS track team. We went for a run one day and happened on an access road to I-95. Not yet complete and the workers had gone home for the day. We enjoyed running right down the middle of what is now one of the busiest interstates in the country. We were slower than 168. Still a blast though. =)

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

Kind of crazy how many Cannonball records that have been broken lately.

I'm not sure how deserving these actual titles are during the pandemic with less traffic/law enforcement, but still impressive nonetheless.

That'd be a total blast as I love to drive fast.

I'm not sure if you've seen the Vinwiki episode where they interview the guy who beat the cannonball record in a rented Mustang but worth the time if you haven't.

I think that’s just the solo record, right?

I am with this.  For sure impressive but, during covid times all such runs perhaps put into the books with an asterisk.

Ironicaly, not the first time the mustang has been used in that way.

Rent it and take it to the drag strip.

Great thread- reminds me of the following:
"The moral of the story is when you are young, speed and adrenaline seem to be great. But as you get older and wiser, comfort and peace are not to be despised either."
I haven't completely bought into the second sentence, yet.  B)

Portofino Inn is about 3 blocks from my house and I wasn’t able to see a single car finish.  I missed the E63 by five min.  It’s so hard to time when they will be arriving, if you even catch wind of it from the neighbors.
