Roasted Hatch Chiles - Round Three 2020

I decided not to Hijack @Killit_and_Grillit thread  so I stared my own.

Hatch Chiles are abundant right now and inexpensive so every run to the store we grab some.  Saturday I grabbed enough to fill the egg.

First threat of rain so I put the "make sure it doesnt rain cap on"... although it did lightly sprinkle.

Now the Chiles- 425 Raised direct

All done

Tagged and Bagged this batch for future use

Let the egg cool down, added a half dome and reverse seared some NY Strips.  Here is the 600 degree sear.

And a nice summer Cucumber, Tomato, Red Onion and Blue Cheese Salad with slices of that strip.

Love it! While not as abundant here in GA, I do plan on getting another haul of green chiles this fall. Normally we have a group that comes to various Kroger stores nearby and will roast them for you. They also sell them raw and I've roasted those on the egg in the past. Hard to pass up having the roasting done already - especially when buying 25 lbs worth! Almost time to stock the freezer up! Great post - thanks for sharing!

Stupid Covid has made it difficult to get them pre-roasted here, used to be every grocery every weekend.  My old Neighbor also has made the run to NM (where he has lived off and on) to buy Sacks of them roasted so thats easier on me not on him.

  • I’m gonna murder some of these this weekend. I feel like a chorizo hatch chile cheese dip for my boss’ birthday party is in order.
