Anyone having problems finding BGE charcoal?
SmokeyTom
Posts: 2
I have two eggs and have band any other grill at my home. I have tried alternate charcoals with poor results so I am committed to BGE charcoal. I live in a rural area of W NC where there are few dealers. All dealers are on back order for charcoal. Today I went to Atlanta and the dealers I visited were also on back order. What is going on? Today. bought Rockwood charcoal and I hope it will work well. Can’t believe BGE is shuttling down with charcoal!! Anybody else having problems?

BGE charcoal is in stock at dealer here. any decent royal oak branded lump is gone - red or blue bag.

I actually went to both of my somewhat local dealers last weekend. One had a bunch of BGE lump and no Rockwood, a Ace Hardware dealer. They have been out of Rockwood for about a month. The second is an independent Egg dealer and he had no BGE lump and stated he did know even know when he would get some. The shortage is real.Morristown TN, LBGE and Mini-Max.

My ACE carries Cowboy and Rockwood. Years ago they carried Wicked . I got 2 bags of BGE with my medium 11 years ago then I discover the others though I have never actually used Cowboy, I can listen to others.

I’m starting to have trouble finding ANY kind of lump charcoal. Im now reduced to getting B&B at Academy. Never used it before so fingers crossed it’s not terrible as the cost somewhat concerns me (2 20 pound bags for $24)

royal oak is probably just putting the lump in their own bags for their own loyal customers and not putting it in the expensive bge bags. bge does not make lump

Just tried my first pickup at WallyWorld, which included 2 bags of Royal Oak. Was ready for a bad/confusing experience, but things went well.

I’ve been ordering Jealous Devil lump direct. They ship free. I’ve found it to be long burning and doesn’t throw off many sparks when I light using the Eggniter. I also dig the waterproof-zip closure bags.XL BGE, Large BGE, Small BGE, Weber Summit NGMemphis

My ACE is no longer carrying Rockwood. They started carrying Jealous devil and FOGO. I got two bags of FOGO today since they only had four bags total.

Have not been able to find BGE lump anywhere in Brooklyn for several months. One ACE had a few, but I kept missing them during off hours. Been using Royal Oak and Cowboy lump; zero complaints.Brooklyn, NYC - medium BGE

I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

For those of us in the midwest - your GFS (Gordon Food Stores) sells lump with their own label which is also made by Royal Oak.

Big Green Egg will not allow online sales, big box sales and even cut off one dealer near me for selling too much competitive charcoal. Now they can’t keep up with demand and their retail center in Atl is still shut down with Covid. Not good for the brand! What did they think would happen in a quarantine? Did they actually think we would shut down the grills?

Home depot has the Royal Oak. Ace's seem to be slowly getting Rockwood in. Appears it has to do with how their distibution is spreading it out. Took my Ace about 3 months to get my order in.York County, PA

Just picked up another bag of RO from my local HD. They had 8-10 bags left on the pallet, I am contemplating going back and buying the rest of the pallet. Bonus...we had a large pecan limb fall the other day at our work, so I grabbed a trailer and brought that home. Should be good on pecan chunks for a while!

ordered three bags of KJ big block from ABT (arrived). Just ordered 3 bags of Wicked Good from ACE (should be here Saturday). Down to my last bag of B&B.

I wasn't able to get the regular BGE charcoal, but I did pick up some of the Brazilian Hardwood type at Eggs By the Bay, and it does seem to be lower in smoke and mild in flavor. I used it to smoke a brisket a couple of weeks ago (pecan and hickory chunks,) and it worked well. BTW, BGE claims that this charcoal is made from sustainably-grown hardwood (eucalyptus wood,) if that's concern for you.

There must be something to a shortage of bge charcoal, a local price gouging dealer in Birmingham has been advertising on the radio that they have bge charcoal in stock. I would rather cook with dried cow pies before I spent a dime in that store.

Completely converted to charcoal and very high density.
Thanks for reminding me how good it is. I will pick up a bag next trip to Publix.
