Cherry Plank Halibut

One of the vendors at our local farmers market had fresh halibut this weekend. I brushed it with EVOO and some Traeger Fin and Feather rub, then smoked it on a layer of lemon slices on a cherry plank. Served on a bed of cardamom rice, it was one of the best pieces of halibut that I’ve ever had.

Looks great! My brother in law just got back from Alaska where they caught a bunch of halibut and salmon. May have to go break in to their freezer and give this a try.Las Vegas, NV

@alaskanassasin I haven't actually seen the haul he brought home, but here says there is a lot. The above picture was from my one trip to Alaska in 2011. I can't wait to get back.

Thanks! I cooked it at 400 on a recessed grate just above the coals.td66snrf said:Very attractive. What temp did you cook it at? Halibut is one of my favorites. -
I did not flip the board. I’ve only just started to smoke on planks so do not have much experience. I will say that by the end of the smoke the board is dried out and bowed up in the middle.loco_engr said:yummy looking fish!

@alaskanassasin I actually think it was Whittier. I was in Anchorage, at the AF base. All I really remember was we went through a long tunnel to get there and there was some glaciers nearby.alaskanassasin said:Nice haul @Battleborn where did you leave out of Ninilchik or Homer?Las Vegas, NV -
That is Whittier. Awhile back all the residents in town moved into that massive ww2 bunker. I bet they are really nervous right now.South of Columbus, Ohio.
