The sweetener is a sugar alcohol. I have used sugar alcohols in cooking before. Some people are definitely sensitive to them. For most people it takes pigging out on them.

A handful of the gummies won't do much. Eat the whole bag in one sitting and yeah, you are going to have an interesting day.

10yo daughter once polished off a box of fruit rollups on a car trip somewhere years ago. We were ready to dismiss the follow-on stomach pains, but thought maybe... Turns out she had appendicitis on the verge of bursting! That was a close one.
