His death is one that perhaps only a few of us may morn as he was no rock star blown away on drugs, nor even the talented individual many even knew existed. Rest In Peace, John.
  • I have to say that when he got this I was worried right off the bat. He is a walking “co-morbidity” case. Still, This one hurts. JP is one of my all time faves. Got to see him a few times and learned to play guitar to his songs over the years. I’ve always been drawn to listening to great songwriters and John Prine was one of the greatest. Good thing because he couldn’t sing to save his a$$ :). Could make you laugh out loud or cry like a baby, often in the same song. Said he liked to write about “the in between things” that most people didn’t think about. Godspeed JP. Thanks for all the memories.

I've been plaing JP songs all moring on my guitar. Adding this one. FWIW, they are all pretty much the same 3 chords so if you know one, you know most

I worked with a fan of John Prine who gifted me 20 of his albums because he wanted me to add them to my library. Guess he thought my musical taste was too mainstream and needed updating. They have been sitting on my hard drive for 5 years. After the news of John's passing, I made the effort to add the music to my iPod touch today. Will be listening to them when I work or walk outside. Still haven't gotten into the John Hartford stuff he gave me.

John Hartford was a gifted song writer and talented banjo player IMO. John was a licensed river boat captain. In the summer months he piloted a local popular paddle excursion boat here in Peoria on the Illinois River. One of my favorite pictures of my late Father was of Dad with John up in the wheelhouse. Of course John had on his signature black bowler hat.

What an amazing talent.  Song writing is some of the best out there.  I rather enjoy his voice and singing too.  Comes across as real, no autotune, no fake, no pretense.  Like hanging out with a buddy and a guitar.

  • Amazing tribute to JP steamed live on YouTube tonight. Some amazing talent showed up to honor him. I only teared up a few times but I swear Janell must have been cutting up onions for most of it. It’s worth a little quiet time to watch and reflect on the man, the myth, the legend. https://youtu.be/jv05dPfmx40

it was the perfect escape from whatever the hell is going on out there today. Hope you guys and gals enjoy as much as we did.

Didn't get to finish it, but I really enjoyed what I did see. The onions must have been smellovision. They got me too.

No other artist has been linked to so many memories "sweet revenge" at my nieces birth... No connection, just what was on as I got out at the hospital. "smoke em if you've got em" at my nephews fifth? Birthday party. I didn't think about it until someone asked me what was said. Ha. I wish I could see him live again, but I am blessed to have seen him when I did.

Thanks. Trust me I will watch that tribute, but not tonight.

I bite my lip and try not to tear up when I listen to “Hello in there, hello”. The lyrics may be dated, but to me some one dear to me is slipping away daily so John’s lyrics have taken on a different meaning.
