Salmon Question - temp out of fridge was 46deg

I bought a beautiful salmon filet yesterday.  I pulled it out of my outside fridge and checked the temp prior to prepping

It was 46 deg.  I know this is the above 40deg recommended temp, think there is an issue after 24hrs at that temp?

Over 4 hours above 40 degrees - I'd toss it.  With that said, there's about a 99% chance it is fine.  The rate of bacterial growth/survival at 46 degrees is only a little different from the rate of bacterial growth/survival at 39 degrees.  But I'd still toss it.

That is what I figured.  Better safe then sorry, especially with the other issues going on right now.

Found the issue.  Mother-in-law brought a cake over that she insisted on bringing.  I told her not too, but whatever.  She blocked the entire vent and temp sensor, so my fridge kept a nice 3 cubic inches of space cold, while every thing else got warm.  SMH.

I figured you would be on to the cause of the fridge hic-cup.  Glad you found the issue.  Back to the salmon source for another go.

I am crying a little, it looks and has better texture than 70% of the salmon nigiri I see being served around me. 4.5lb center cut.

Now that really sucks!  And the closer for a script for another M-I-L joke/household disaster.  Patience... B)

It was from a local butcher who has an amazing selection, and when he gets in salmon it is phenomenal.  Guess I will make another trip there for the weekend.  I have one unhappy wife right now, it was her bday dinner.  All her plans were already ruined because COVID-19.

The last thing you want right now is to get any sickness that requires that you go to the hospital. A piece of fish isn’t worth that risk.

Why are you having family visit during the time for social distancing?

That was why she had agreed to cancel the cake and not bring it.  I told her we would do it on another day.  She said she couldn't cancel, so was dropping it off in the garage fridge.  I am already in the doghouse for not inviting her over.

She never came inside and I never went outside.  That  is why cake was blocking vents on the fridge and I did not notice.  Only people in our house are residents.

Where in the fridge was the vent and temp sensor that was blocked?

In the garage.  So I didn't check it till I went to pull the salmon out.  I keep a thermometer in there and checked it when I out the salmon in, it was 37 deg.
