OT: Operation BBQ Relief - Nashville area

Just got notified that they will be setting up here starting tomorrow.  Volunteered for a few days - having absolutely no idea what I'll be doing.  I grew up here so it's a way I can give back.  Hit the Germantown area of North Nashville and East side of town  Also spread further east all the way to Cookeville.  I have several friends that were affected.  25 confirmed dead in Middle Tennessee at this time.  (16 or more in Cookeville).  Being old, slow and retired I'm trying to make every day count.
Was just thinking what to cook tonight - think we'll do simple burgers since the smell of BBQ will be prevelane for a while.

I hadn’t heard about a disaster in the Germantown area. I have a nephew and his family there.

My cousin lives in Germantown. His condo lost power, flooded, had a gas leak, and roof was partially ripped off. He said it sounds exactly like how people describe it, a "Freight Train". He's in a hotel this evening and counting his blessings.

It turns out that Tennessee has two Germantowns, one near Memphis and one near Nashville. My nephews at the one near Memphis.

    Thanks for helping out @Possumtrot

My cousin said it was pure hell on earth last night. He knows how fortunate he was and was able to help others out with injuries. He's going back tomorrow to help with clean up. I mentioned Operation BBQ Relief was coming in to help out. He said Red Cross helped with meals this afternoon. Some scary stuff. Prayers to the ones missing or who were to lost in this storm.

Don’t worry, there is an ass for every seat and they know how to fill them. Good on you for helping. They have everything from cooking all night, to chopping and saucing meat, to directing traffic, making deliveries etc. They will find a job for you and they will need all the help they get. Way to make a difference.

Just about to head out for my third day of helping out – emphasis on helping.  Great organization and people from all over pitching in.  One young lady here yesterday (and will be back today) was in Nashville on a brief vacation but just had to help after she heard about the devastation – she’s from Paradise, Calif. and was fed by BBQ Relief in Nov. 2018 after the fires.  Just wanted to pay back.

There is something going on all the time – prepping food, cooking, loading for distribution, picking up new supplies, distributing food to locations needed, cleaning, etc.  Now I really know why I don’t work at Home depot or Lowes after I retired – standing on my feet all day is not especially cool at my age.

Thanks to those of you who posted and esp to @lousubcap for the donation.   I mentioned this to the staff and they grinned a lot and were very appreciative.  Shows what the BBQ/cooking community is about.
