GREASE FIRE and Burnt Smell

hello all I have been cooking on my grill for years never had this happen
snuffed out my grill at 3:00 in the morning after doing a brisket and than at 8:30 I opened the lid to get something out and forgot to close it back up and I did have a pan on the plate setter with grease in it
my question is will I be able to get the burnt smell out and will my food taste like that
any thoughts would be appreciated not sure if burning it off will work or should I try to turn this in to the insurance company with every thing else

Wow! You are very lucky that didn't get much worse. A good high temp burn off and you'll be good to go. May need to check your gaskets real good.I would seriously consider moving your cooking area out from under the eave. I've seen pizza cooks that melted soffit.

Glad that didn't get any worse than that.. Agreed move the egg.. Glad you ok.Greensboro North Carolina

A clean burn will get the nasties out. Agree on moving the egg too. The carbon monoxide exhaust from the grill seeping through the soffit vents isn’t ideal.

thanks for the input I will take care of thatLG BGE Bressler (Harrisburg) Pennsylvania

You've got more things to think about that the burnt smell. Be safe out there!

I didn’t catch all of the damage of course but you might add up all of the repair costs before filing a claim. Replacing soffit is pretty easy and cheap. The materials cost on vinyl siding isn’t high either. Homeowners insurance will make you pay the deductible up front then you will lose your no claim discount. I echo what others said about moving the Egg away from the house.

you pretty much did everything wrong. egg on deck, egg next to house, egg under eave, lots of grease in egg check the bottom of the egg for cracks, underneath, clean and remove fire box and check for cracks on the inside of the base, the cracks can be hard to see so look close. this would be a warranty issue if its cracked. and get that egg off the deck
fukahwee maineyou can lead a fish to water but you can not make him drink it -
