I bought a knockoff for my XL off amazon. Materials seemed fine but the fit is awful.
Went back to the KAB like I had in all the others~ John - Formerly known as ColtsFan - https://www.instagram.com/hoosier_egger

I have not, because ash baskets are unnecessary."I've made a note never to piss you two off." - Stike

What size is your egg? Imo the ash baskets are far less helpful on the XL than they are in all the smaller eggs. While they certainly are not a necessity, they do offer some redeeming values. Depending on your level of OCD while cleaning the ash, you will either like the basket or love the basket. No experience with anything but KAB.

I’m with you, Pete. I’ve had KABs in my most frequently used eggs (L and S) and I love them! Both KAB are second generation so they are not stainless steel. BUT even though they show signs of rust it’s no big deal.pgprescott said:What size is your egg? Imo the ash baskets are far less helpful on the XL than they are in all the smaller eggs. BTW if and when they fail me you can bet money that I will be buying new KABs!,

Like a lot of things with a BGE (I have a large), a KAB is not necessary but I put it in the worthwhile purchase category. In addition making ash removal easier, it improves air flow.Stillwater, MN

I would make this comment. I have had the KAB, and the ash bowl. Which is a dog bowl with a hole in it for the ash. I have also had the Basket from Kamado Joe. The KJ is much heavier duty. It also the ability to have a divider inserted in, that comes with it, so you can have a indirect half. If you use the bowl still use the cast iron drain cover in the firebox. This disperse of heat on the bottom of the grill is critical to keeping the bottom from over heating. Mine sits on granite and this made a burn difference on the granite. Yes it was on the feet. However, back to the thread the KJ basket or KAB with the bowl is easy cleanup.
