OT: Should I get a Costco Membership?

13»

Comments

  • It definitely can be a bit dangerous. I have a Costco 5 minutes from my house (and usually work from home). I ran buy Costco to grab some meat for dinner one week day. I was in a hurry and only had time to run in and grab the meat. 15 minutes later I exit the store with my steaks, a steam cleaner, and a TV.

I'd be going there for the $1.75 hot dog lunch very often if I was that close!

Also, BATTERIES!!  Car, boat, forklifts, etc, all have costco batteries.  You get a 42 month warranty, plus another year or two if you put it on your Costco credit card.  I test them often, and usually end up swapping them out after 3 yrs......they'll give you a brand new one regardless of a price increase.  NO depreciation or prorating.
Okay, you just sold another Costco membership.  I've never gotten more than two years out of a motorcycle battery, so this alone will pay for even an Executive membership (and I really do miss the cheese selection).  Thanks!  :triumph:

  • Hey @Botch if your bike sits a lot you should look into getting a battery tender if you don’t already use one.

I am in Wisconsin. I think the meat selection is good, but the prices are just like the grocery store sale prices. I am sure this varies by locality.
That's very interesting.  Around here, when the regular markets have meat on sale, it is definitely not as good as their usual cuts.  Costco is very consistent with great quality and is always cheaper than the local markets.

Go to your local Costco and look around. See if what they have appeals to you.
This ^^^^^^^^^^. I have seen people post great stuff on here for years from Costco. However the closest one to me (which isn’t real close) is not as good as our Sams. They seem to vary store to store from what I can see.

Location- Just "this side" of Biloxi, Ms.

    Status- Standing by.

The greatest barrier against all wisdom, the stronghold against knowledge itself, is the single thought, in ones mind, that they already have it all figured out.

  • Sams beats Costco in my area.

Yea I have the executive account and the cash back pays for mye membership every year.
I always had you figured for a top shelf (executive) kind of guy.
Now that might be the funniest thing I've seen all week.  And the morning after the Braves debacle I really needed that!!  Thanks @northGAcock

Yeah, not so much by me. I am also assuming all "choice" USDA graded cuts are equal, no matter where you get it. I don't shop prime that much.

  • Definitely yes. In addition to the comments above, I will point out that their store brand products (Kirkland) are exceptional. Their dress shirts are an unbeatable value.

USDA Choice is a very wide range of meat quality. Some "choice" cuts are lean and others are very fatty. My experience is that Costco uses the better end of the USDA Choice meat.

What everyone else said. Get the executive membership and the Costco Visa. The cash back rebate more than pays for itself. BTW, you do not have to spend your rebate check. You can walk in and cash it out, and they will either give you cash or write you a check depending on how much your rebate is.

Thanks for the link. Good read. I recall reading about Costco making the move to produce their own broiler chickens last year but hadn't heard any more until now. Hope it all works out for Costco and the farmers.
