'Borrowed back' the tortilla press from our kid and wanted to try it. Followed mix ratio on the packaging. Had to settle for thick tortilla because it was tearing when I pressed it thin. Was going to ask forum experts what did I do wrong, but as I'm typing I realised I goofed big time. Turned out I added 1/3 cup of water to 1 cup corn flour, instead of 2/3 cup water called for. Live and learn
Seasoning for the beef ... chili powder, garlic powder, cumin, onion powder, salt, pepper, oregano, chili flakes

Thanks for looking, I'm sure I screwed up more than just the water quantity, any other advice welcome!

Advice: invite me over next time! I'd hit that fat-ass taco in a heartbeat!"Hallelujah, Noel, be it Heaven or Hell,
The Christmas we get, we deserve"

Current issue of Cook's Country magazine had a section on making corn tortillas that might be helpful.I've attached a pdf for you.“Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away.” ― Philip K. Diçk

It looks great- almost like greek pita. Throw some tzatziki sauce on it and you have yourself a gyro.Which came first the chicken or the egg? I egged the chicken and then I ate his leg.

@SmokeyPitt Thanks but the embarrassingly fat tortilla was dense, not puffy like pita. We drizzled it with Louisiana hot sauce, it was edible

My wife (and obviously her family) are Mexican, my mother-in-law has taught me a ton on cooking. When I first met her, she just had stopped making corn tortillas since certain store brands (El Milagro) made tortillas just as good and tortillas are a pain in the rear. About ten years ago, HEB started selling raw flour tortillas (near the eggs) and she hasn't made flour since then. If I didn't live in Texas maybe I'd make some, but I'd need my MIL advice first. I think half the issue with store bought is folks don't know how to cook them. 2 flips... Long (flip) long (flip) short.. one side should have a thin crispy layer (the one that's down twice)
I know what you mean on thick tortillas- they are ok, but they are a meal onto themselves.+++++++++++++++++++++++++++Austin, Texas. I'm the guy holding a beer. -
I’ll gladly take a thick taco while you work out the kinks
Looks pretty darn good from here! #1 LBGE December 2012 • #2 SBGE February 2013 • #3 Mini May 2013A happy BGE family in Houston, TX. -
Thick tacos hold more stuff. What is the problem again?
That taco looks pretty scrumptious from where I am sitting. Zero complaints from me."Knowledge is Good" - Emil Faber

@sumoconnell Thanks for sharing. We found a local store that sells premade authentic tortillas but it comes in a bag of 50 or 100, would take us forever to finish!

PS - I would destroy that taco, please don't take it the wrong way. We eat a lot of tortillas, I don't think we'd finish 50 before they turned green!+++++++++++++++++++++++++++Austin, Texas. I'm the guy holding a beer.

That's awesome... When my girls were on the swim team in high school, we were always out of food. Now it's two empty nesters.. this is all we need(30)
