Thermopen IR and IR use

Do any of you use IR surface temp readings when cooking? To this point, I have not - I just go by look, smell, instinct and waving my hand above the hot surface. But the Thermopen IR unit has me intrigued (it has a thermopen and and IR reader in a single unit)? Also, does anyone have this unit and have any thoughts?
Thanks for any input.

I have used/ still use a lot of IR but not for cooking, most have Adjustable emissivity , but it is unlikely anyone adjusts it so what you are reading , though repeatable, may or may not be accurate at allVisalia, Ca @lkapigian

I use a cheap point and click IR for checking oil temp when I’m frying and to check pizza stone temp.
