Welcome!  You rightly stated that you just acquired your “first Egg”, ‘cause it likely won’t be your last!  It’s a sickness!  🤓

Welcome. Looks like you might be cooking sans gasket. If so, you might want to consider a Rutland. Ive put them on all three of my Eggs and couldn’t be happier.

    Let the spending begin. 🙂

Btw, your Egg looks like a Medium - the best performing size, IMO! A fantastic cooker.

Haven't had a gasket on any of the Eggs for years.  No problem holding low and slow.

XXL #82 out of the first 100, XLGE X 2, LBGE (gave this one to daughter 1.0) , MBGE (now in the hands of iloveagoodyoke daughter 2.0) and lots of toys

I know they can be run without them. I might believe that shut down would be faster with a gasket in place.

I think the one benefit is the dome outside stays cleaner with gaskets.  Holding temp and shut down don't seem to be a problem, but they do leak smoke.  My gut feeling is that I use the daisy wheel and bottom vent to compensate for minor uncontrolled air flow around the gasketless gap.
