BOSE Audio Sunglasses......going out on a limb with my Optometrist.....

For those who know me, you get it that i am a music enthusiast. I love the classic rock genera which includes Dylan, Dead, Beatles, Dire Straits, Allman Brothers and many other talented groups. Bose introduced a pair of audio sunglasses last year, and has received fairly good reviews. They have sense added replacement lens for those who want to change the colors (I guess) as a fashion statement. Well not being one for the fashion side, I am interested more from a functional side, and my use case would be to add prescription lens. Bose does not have an official position on this....which tells me they are scared of any liability or shared responsibility if and when things go wrong. At any rate, I am jumping in and my optometrist (an neighbor and friend) is doing the research and supports our collaboratively testing of the waters. A really cool concept if you ask me with Bluetooth functionality for music and phone calls. Not sure if any of you have done anything similar, but please share if you have. I will do the same.....

Sunglasses that play music...what a time to be alive!

What's the battery life on those things? Never thought about using "musical sunglasses" but have been happy with some of the bluetooth earphones on the market these days.
I'm sure any optician worth their salt can easily fit some custom lenses in those for you.

Going by memory here....but I believe it is 3 hours streaming music. They are good for 12 hours charged for say phone use. They recharge in a couple hours of charge time.

I like the idea but losing faith in Bose after my last purchase. I bought a SoundLink mini 2 and it doesn't charge. Considering how cheap Bluetooth speakers are these days I paid a pretty big premium for the Bose name only for it to break twice now.  Bose has been good about replacing it once already but now it is doing the same thing. From a search around the net it appears to be a known problem. Hopefully the glasses won't have the same problem.

On a good note, when this thing works it sounds amazing so I'm sure those will too.

Any plans for them to make beer goggles with this same functionality?

  • Do you have to remove the glasses while they charge several hours?

Oakley started doing something very similar years ago.

These look like the have ear buds....the BOSE don’t......but to answer your question, I would say yes....remove them to charge with a power cord.

I've had some experience with the product and I was really impressed.  I did an A/B test between them and the Bose wireless earbuds, and the frames held their own.  The stand alone headphones were better, but not by as wide a margin as I had expected.

The battery life is kind of a bummer, but not awful.  FYI- Phone calls will shorten that battery life significantly.

Removing the lenses technically voids the warranty, but they are designed to be removable for future lens upgrades.  As long as you keep the original lenses and don't forget to replace them for any warranty service, no one would know the difference.

    Hope this helps.

Good info and close to what I am thinking. My eye dr. wants to know if the (and I don’t have a clue of terminology)......if the things that fold out and catch holt to yer ear......can be removed from the Bridge (maybe).....or better describes by me as the part that holds the frames. Any knowledge of this?

I don’t know for sure, but I wouldn’t imagine the arms are removable.  There is likely internal wiring throughout the whole thing.

Roger that. I think her line of thought was to limit what the folks making the lens could f up. It will all work out I hope. Appointment on Wednesday next week.

I say you pick up the bose audio sunglasses.  You can have @bgebrent call you and instruct you through all of your cooks.  A complete Ratatouille setup.

The new phone books are here, the new phone books are here.......actually my glasses arrived. They are awesome based on my initial set up and walk around the block. Will try them out for a few days before meeting up with eye doc...... getting closer to joy.
