Sharpening my knives with the Work Sharp KO Edition

Options
Just finished my video showing how to use the WSKTS-KO Sharpener. The unit seems will made.  Still getting the hang of sliding the knife along the roller and edge guides. Like the size if it and the feel (doesn't feel cheap).  Hope the edge stays on the knife as long as when I drop a knife off with a professional.

Please note: I purchased this sharpener (the Amazon $79.99 Sale). I have no vested interest in the company or Ken Onion. Just like making videos. Hope you enjoy...

Sharp looking video! (see what I did there?) Your kitchen looks awesome.  The onion looks fairly simple to use.

At the sale price $79.99 (last week on Amazon), I couldn’t pass it up. I have a bunch of knives at my in-laws beach house that I can’t wait to do on the next visit ( need warmth). Glad you enjoyed the “sharp” looking video.

A nice informative video. Straight to the point. Which is always appreciated. Especially with YouTube videos. Your editing and commentary is really nicely done.

Thanks for the feedback. I try to keep the videos short enough that someone can watch 75% or more and not be bored. I do it for fun but want to make them informative and interesting. Thanks Again for your comments.

Does the belt go the same direction relative to the blade ON EACH SIDE?
Doesn't look like it......which for me, makes it a non-starter.

Nice video. Watch out if you use the coarse belts. They remove a lot of material in a hurry and you can round off the blade tip really quickly.

CamelCamelCamel worked great for me this time. Got the alert and ordered from amazon and the price was back to normal an hour later.

As for using in the kitchen, you are correct.  It was cold in the garage and the wife was traveling - she will never know  ;)

There is a bit of a learning curve to stopping the knife tip while still on the belt to prevent rounding it off. I practiced on several older pocket knives and a worn out Shun that my son nearly destroyed. Still don’t trust myself to sharpen my New West KnifeWorks chef’s knife. Luckily they offer lifetime free sharpening.

Used 2 of the knives that I sharpened on Sunday.  Let me tell you I thought they still had an edge (last year had them professionally sharpened). Was I surprised at how sharp that are after a few passes,  So far very happy and impressed.

Nice video.  Glad you were able to catch this deal on Amazon, as was I.  I used an add-on in Firefox called "Keepa - Amazon Price Tracker" to alert me to the price drop.  It's a pretty cool app; you can set the alert to any parameters that you desire.  It also shows you price histories as well.  According to my app, the Work Sharp Ken Onion Edition price dropped to $79.99 at about 4:00 a.m. and went back to $129.99 at about noon local time.  Not sure why or how they determine to make a temporary price drop but it's nice to be alerted when they do.
(P.S.- I have no affiliation with Work Sharp, Keepa, Firefox, or anything else.)

You are correct and that is a reasonable objection. That didn’t bother me and I love the way it works on all my knives. I do understand  how someone would be averse to this style of sharpening though. For me, it’s been a perfect solution.

FWIW... I have sharpened knives with all sorts of stones and spent many hours doing it.  I enjoy sharpening while watching some sort of sporting event.  Anyway I bought a sander from harbor freight and purchased a couple of leather belts along with varied sanding belts and I love how I can sharpen knives in about 3 minutes!!  I will never go back.  I am not looking for the sharpest blade but one that will slice meat and such.
I sharpen all the neighbors knives whenever they request.

Alert. You WILL etch your knives if you do not tape them.  I believe it comes from the side guides collecting removed material.  Did a number on my Globals and i don't know how to fix it.  Not real happy about that, and I get a better result from my Chef's choice 15 Trizor than I did with the K.O.  Sorry, but beware.

It will do that. I don’t tape- don’t care about the etching but totally legit to care if you are into that.

I am able to buff it out on my Damascus Steel Shuns with steel wool but I rearely do
