  • Whew! Those neon pink dogs with watery chili and onions.. You are more of a man than I sir!

  • I live here and have tried the Q at what are ostensibly some of the best places in the state.  I wasn’t impressed.

In Durham the best Q we have is at Picnic.   It’s a relatively new place so it doesn’t quite have the rep yet, but that’s where I’d send people for high quality stuff.   The Q shack is also pretty good, but it’s Central Texas style.
Yep, Picnic is the best for BBQ in Durham, besides mine of course!!!

Allan's on 15/501 is pretty good. Their fried corn on the cobb is a treat.

I used to think it was good before I knew any better. I ate at Honey Monks a year or two ago and was blown away at how terrible it was. I had hyped it up to the wifey too...
Micheal, I too thought Honey Monks was the best around. I hadn't been there in a couple years and stopped by several months ago and it was horrible. I don't think the BBQ has changed, I think now I know what good BBQ should be. It's kinda like steakhouses after I started cooking steaks on the egg and buying quality cuts I very seldom order a steak at a restaurant.

Well...so much for keeping politics out of this disco. Seems Ole Roy weighed in.

I still need to get over and try Picnic. For an under the radar spot that I love (and only 10 minutes from where I live) - have you tried Johnson’s on 98 a few miles east of 70?
Johnson's is very good Q. I often forget about them and shouldnt seeing that im only a few miles away. Picnic is underwhelming compared to say Parker's in Wilson but for the only whole hog shop in the area it fills a void.

What do you think the best place in the area is?
I have been told that I make a pretty good pork butt.  When my daughter was at ECU, I tried to time the trip so I could stop at B's in Greenville.   I liked Clyde Coopers better before they moved to the new location.

NC is known for their BBQ sauce not the quality of their pulled pork.
