Perhaps time to reflect-
Talk about being able to get things done.  A piece of one of the greatest engineering achievements in history.
Yes, Dec 24, 1968-
Sleep well knowing today there are those who will rise to any challenge and achieve great things on behalf of this nation.
Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win.  Life is too short for light/lite beer!  Seems I'm livin in a transitional period.

  • Thanks for the reminder. It was truly a great accomplishment that was just the beginning.  Spent the last couple days in Dayton with Mama Birds parent. Went to Carillion park.  What a great display of the innovation that came from the Dayton area. Unbelievable to think about the number of inventions that were generated there.

Last weeks' Time magazine had an interview with Apollo 8's three astronauts, they're in their 80's/90's but still kicking (and funny as hell); just read it today.  I was too young to understand the political pressure, and the engineering risks, that Apollo 8 was under back then, Wow!
    Great thread, Cap'n!

We (my company) have a building in Clear Lake City South of Houston that had one of the astronaut centrifuges for the apollo program.  The centrifuge is long gone but the block of concrete is still there and it is massive going deep underground.
