OT - Cutting the Cord - YTTV and Hulu

A few months ago, I cut the cord and decided to give Hulu Live a try. I am fortunate to have a dedicated 1GB Fiber connection via Metronet which is a regional internet provider based out of Indiana.

Hulu Live has been a very frustrating experience due to stability, reliability and constant buffering issues. I have never had issues with Netflix but Hulu seems to have a lot of issues to deal with.

Over the weekend I tried Youtube-TV and so far I have not experience any of the issues I have had with Hulu.

The interface is easier, no limit in recordings as you are basically creating a library of content.

While I do enjoy some of the original programming that Hulu offers I figure we can always set up a short term subscription for some of the shows we want to watch as needed.

So, if you are considering cutting the cord I would not waste time with Hulu and go with YTTV.

we decided to cut the cord and in April called direct TV and cancelled.  they called the next day gave us DVR, 3 receivers and NFL Sunday ticket for $25 a month, so we took them back.  hard to pass up for that price.

I used to be a Direct TV customer . Unfortunately we had so many issues due to weather interference made the change to Metronet.

Glad this thread popped up, tired of the 150 Durect Tv I pay and no premiums ...Thinking about Amazon Firestick , but can't really tell what the true cost is and what you really get...

I have no issues with Hulu. Well I did have to call them once because I got an error message that I was outside of the United States. Not true, but after one call they get me sorted out. Performance wise Hulu has been great.

I'm using Hulu Live, Ad-free, with extended DVR.  $58/month, but the minimum configuration if you want to skip all ads.  Its been reliable for us, and sports events have been properly extended.  The interface is weird and not as inutitive as YTTV, but you'll get used to it.

Are you using Hulu Live?

I am not. Maybe that is why I am NOT having an issue.

I just got hulu live this weekend actually. I had one issue buffering, but went to home screen and was back up and running in about 10 seconds. I only experienced that once. 

I almost immediately regretted not spending the extra 3 bucks to not have ads though.... lol... I'll be upgrading that real quick. 

Other than that, it's been pretty cool and easy to use.

Hulu live and Netflix user here. It's been pretty solid for me. Very early on I was having buffering issues, but the past 8-10 months have been great

We didn’t care for Hulu Live or Sling.  For $35 / month, DirecTV Now gives us the channels we want.  We also have Netflix and a commercial free Hulu account that we use.   All in all, we’re still saving money over comparable Xfinity service for our area.

I recently cut the cord.  I went with PS Vue, before you even think it, NO you do not need a Playstation game console.  PS Vue is a streaming app and to me it is the answer.  Channel availability is based on location.  In switching form Comcast to Ps Vue I found 3 channels that did not transfer over but there are several that I did not have with Comcast.

I have all my local channels and regional sports channels.  It has been great thus far.  I stream on. Apple TV 4k and on a Roku.

I am using Hulu Live now and I am experiencing similar issues with the "live" option with sports. It varies from channel to channel. One game will look fine, but another game is really low quality and buffers frequently. I might give Youtubetv a look- thanks! Perhaps next time there is a game I want to watch if Hulu live quality is bad I will sign up for the YTTV free trial. 

In general I really like Hulu and it is only sports that I have had quality issues with. However, sports is the only reason I signed up for the live option. For $12 it seems like you get to stream all you want on demand, and the shows are usually available to stream shortly after they air. My plan is I was going to pay for live through football season and then drop back to the $12 option.

I tried Playstation Vue for a couple of years and hated the interface.  Switched to Youtube TV and love it. Have had it about a year now.  Never have any issues with it.

Direct TV Now is also an option for streaming live television. I turned off my direct tv satellite and started with direct tv now about 2 months ago. I haven’t had any problems and have been very pleased.

i had hulu for 2 weeks.  had issues also.  skipping and freezing.  playstation vue through my roku.  also chromecast.

Cut the cord back in March, we use DirectV Now and have had no problems.

We have been on FuboTV for a while now and love it. I also have the ESPN+, I now have more sports than I ever did with a cable provider.
