So today Norah Grace cooked at a local rib fest and comp. This one was a backyard event, so it was one meat and one side. Also they had a dessert round. It was odd because it was open judging so they read off the scores she scored a perfect 9 on taste and tenderness but only a 7 on appearance. We were under the impression it would be blind box so that’s what we prepared for turns out they wanted restaurant style plating oh well. We had a great time I’ll up load a few photos of her chicken, Mac & cheese, s’mores cones and her pie.
Shes a little disappoited but but at least she got to walk and is very proud of her perfect taste and tenderness scores.
Same me thing happened with her desert it was perfect minus the apparance score. Over all to lose to some one by less than a point at 9 is impressive.

Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period. -
@Killit_and_Grillit Norah and I have had a ton of help along the way, so many of the eggheads have given us tips and tricks to improve on our efforts. Many of you have encouraged her woth your kind comments and have helped to get a shy little gal out of her shell. We’ve met and talked to so many wonderful people but today’s chicken all the credit belongs to Mr Harry Soo. He was so kind take. His time to instruct her.XL BGE, KJ classic, Joe Jr, UDS x2

Norah Grace, you continue to impress with your cooking skill! Congratulations!
I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

@lkapigian once the crust set on top it is finishe in a pan full of Parkay squeeze butter until it hits 185. Then it was oncobered hit with another dusting of rub and honey until just about 200°. That point it was pulled from the grill and tented. Chicken was killer. Norah did a great job, she actually did it all I just helped out. Our roles have changed I’m now the sous chefXL BGE, KJ classic, Joe Jr, UDS x2

Wow that is incredibly impressive food for anyone let alone a 9 year old. A great future in cooking ahead is guaranteed. Congrats!

On a side note, Norah was talking to people about her charcoal of choice lol. Anyone care to venture a guess? She was telling people to buy from @stlcharcoal In her opinion you want something that is as natural and predictable as possible. I’m starting to wonder what I’ve done to my little gir! Many people came by for samples and advise on how to do this or that, they assumed I’d be the one to answer for them.....well before I could say anything Norah was explaining trimming a brisket how and when to wrap, how to load charcoal and smoke wood and the list went on and on.
This is was a cool event with about 500 people attending, most of them new eggheads or wanting to be eggheads.XL BGE, KJ classic, Joe Jr, UDS x2 -

I'll take taste and tenderness over appearance 5000% of the time.
