Started table build

Well after all the questions I've been asking I started the build.:)
It's about 50/50 scrap wood I have and some new stuff from Lowes. Its going pretty good but the scrap is harder to work with being bent and lots of cracks.
Well I got the base together and used liberal amounts of wood putty to fill the bad areas.
Put the first coat of paint...
I got some of the cheaper 1x6 from Lowes so I'm going to put that on the lower deck in the morning. Just trying to come up with what the top needs to be.
I've seen some tables with gaps between the boards on the bottom...was considering doing that for air flow.

Great start.
I want to see pics of the whole process. A an Egger and a Woodworker I love the build pics. Can always get ideas from other people's work.Marshall in Beautiful Fruit Cove, FL.

Well I'm far from a woodworker...and I really suck at plumbing.:)
I put the casters on and cut the 1x6's for the bottom deck. I'm going to sand them down and stain them with a lite colored walnut. I've decided because they really have a pretty good look, to put them down with finishing nails so I can fill the nail holes in.
Being that I have done this with minimum $ I'm goona go with 1x4 cedar for the top...just sweating cutting the hole for the egg.:o
Here's this mornings pic's...off to home depot $...

Use a router for the cutout if you have one. Fairly easy with the router or a jig saw.Marshall in Beautiful Fruit Cove, FL.

You're off to a good start. The trick is to build it strong enough to hold the egg, yet light enough to move.I have a table with similar construction to yours and its a beast to move, even without the egg installed.I used synthetic decking and that contributed to the excess weight.

Yea...it’s gonna be a beast...but will live in my gazebo.
ive got the cedar for the top...should I just sand and apply clear polly...or some kind of stain?Eastern Shore Virginia

I need to build a gazebo too. My wife doesn't like for me to use the eggs under our covered porch as the smoke smell gets into the house. I need something out away from the house that protects me and the eggs when it rains.Marshall in Beautiful Fruit Cove, FL.

Got the top on this morning waiting for the glue to dry to finish sand. Gotta go back to Lowes for some more 2" finishing nails so I can nail down the bottom deck...left it off for top install so none of the glue would drip on it.
After looking at the top, I'm thinking of a dark stain...still debating that.
I also decided to put a back to the table top...where its going to sit in my gazebo it will be up against a screen wall...hoping that will stop anything from resting against it.

Well decided to cut out the hole prior to my Lowes run...incase I screwed it up.=)
Worked out better than I expected...made it a little larger...18 1/2"...don't want the chance of burning down my gazebo.:)
Well, off to Lowes for some finishing nails.

Done for the day.
Tomorrow.
Fill in the holes on table top with wood filler, finish sanding and stain top and bottom. Need to do a little paint touch up as well.

Progressing nicely.

Looking good.

Nice work

Well ...done deal.
It turned out pretty good with the exception of the top. I used finishing nails and wanted to hide them, so I covered them with wood filler. The filler said stainable but wasn't at least for me, no mater how much I sanded. So...know you can see exactly where every nail is...oh well.
Also...I bought a cheaper table nest from amazon...don't like how the egg moves a little in it.
Now it's happy in my gazebo...

Great job, and a very fast build.

Well moved some stuff around in my gazebo...I know some don't like wood and eggs together, but I live life dangerously.=)
I like having my ranger2 on a table but will monitor how hot it gets on a cook today. Making smash burgers on the BS and greasy western fry's on the ranger.
Hope everyone has a great weekend...looks like a lot of rain coming here.

Nice work, I think the filler adds a bit to it IMOVisalia, Ca @lkapigian
