OT Mosquitos are the devil

I have finally found the solution to the little blood sucking bastards. I am not afliated with this company by any means. But I found them a couple of months ago and they have saved US pints of blood. My wife has tons of plants so you can imagine how many we have. What is this I speak of you ask?  www.moshield.com it is worth every penny of money spent. I haven’t been but once this summer. Can’t speak highly enough of them.

Or you can just invite people you don’t like over and fail to offer them deet.
  • lol man they spray like 2-3 times a month and have had zero mosquitos. Back in the past you could see them swarming our front porch

I believed the results from the untreated hand the first time. Not sure why he insisted on proving the mosquitos were going to keep biting the second, third and fourth times. Not sure how much he got paid for that, but it's not enough for that demonstration.

Grab a pump sprayer and some demand cs insecticide.

Speay perimeter and lawn. House and shrubs and patio and walls and whatever else.

Once a month and it keeps em away.

Also kills flies off and other bugs too!

Mosquitos suck. We have some down here the size of vultures. The yellow flies are fierce too. If they have something to repel yellow flies it would be worth it’s weight in gold.

I grew up in South Dakota, and have the body chemistry that attracts them (after a horseshoe game with my Dad, Grandpa and uncles, they each had a couple bites and I had dozens).  After an assignment in Albuquerque I knew I had to live in the West to enjoy my summers; my last AF assignment was in Grand Forks ND and they were the worst I'd seen (and could bite through denim, I'm not kidding).
Moved to utard in '95 and except for when I'm photographing waterfowl in the marshes, no mosquitoes.  I can deal with the black widows and hobo spiders.

About $150/month for the moshield service? That's kinda steep.

This used to work pretty well when used weekly. Then I tinkered with my mosquito mister barrel system enough and made it wifi-controlled. That works excellently. The permethrin costs $20/month or so.

Something like this (from the interwebz)

tubing runs to spray heads and a fine mist of insecticide sprays according to however you program it. Our house has spray heads along the outside walls, and another ring of spray heads runs along the fence line.

The drum gets filled with water and a half gallon of permethrin concentrate. The drum lasts about 3 months. I rigged it with a float switch so that it sends me a text and email when it’s empty. The permethrin is available from Amazon.

    Works pretty well.

These seem to work pretty well. I know several people in Canada using them.

For some reason I really don’t get bit very often by mosquitos. I don’t like them. The common housefly however frys my @ss. That’s all.

I work near Lake Ogrechobee, and you can time the swarm by the sun. As soon as Big Red moves below the horizon, you better run for the camper. The mosquitoes will chew you up and make you want to run into the alligators in the lake to get some relief.
The campground has a spray truck that drives around, but you can watch the breeze from the lake blow the fog away.

More than likely, you're paying a service to spray Talstar P, which you can get through Amazon.

Last year I purchased a Stihl  gas powered backpack sprayer/mister and spray Talstar P monthly and eliminated 99% of the mosquitoes in the yard.  Prior to that I was using a service and we still were having mosquitoes and paying them $100 per month.  I later found that the service was only using 25% of the recommended amount of Talstar P.

I was thinking the same. We don't have the same degree of problem in the UK as you guys, but I wouldn't spray anything around that was indiscriminate and killed the other insects we depend on.

I'll turn the misting system off as soon as the skeeters become as friendly and useful as bees. Until then, I'll pollinate the flowers myself if necessary.

Any idea if Talstar can be filled in a barrel system, timed to spray monthly?

Not sure. I use it in my backpack sprayer.

I have also placed two of these around my house.

It has sucrose and yeast in it. Sweet draws them 8n and the yeast expands to kill the mosquitoe.
