I leave my hitch in my truck.   My theory is when people hit it, they will stop before they hit my bumper.
I leave my 3 way on my hitch also. It's like a Kris knife into a hood or radiator
Alternately, you could go with a set of spiked Truck Nuts for a teabag effect

I don't know what your outside low temp would have to reach to get to 0*F in your garage but I'm sure it is well south of there.  No AC&R expert, calling @NPHuskerFL who may have some insights.
Should be fine if you're operating the unit within the defined ambient operating specs.  Clearly, the hotter it is, the less efficient it becomes.

We used to bump eachs others work trucks at intersections... until our front bumper got hooked on a hitch, that was pretty funny.

Ron, the issue might not be freezer not working in the cold, but the effects of the cold on the auto defrost cycle.
I have an upright freezer in my garage in Galveston. We rarely get cold enough, long enough to drop my garage temps below freezing. But when it does, the drain hose freezes up and the bottom of my freezer slowly turns into a mini ice ring until I clear it out.
    Thank you,

Ron, a family member has had a Fridigare freezer in their insulated but unheated garage for over five years (northern IL), and never had a problem. It is placed on an interior wall.

Last winter we had little snow but considerably colder temperatures for days and often. First time in the 38 years in this home that we had bottles of water freeze and cans of soda freeze and explode on our garage floor. While our 30 year old Monkey Ward freezer never seemed to have a problem it really made me start thinking about a replacement this summer before it may die on us.
