Congrats, welcome and say good buy to the rest of your expendable cash!
Honestly, I can't think of 1 BGE accessory I would buy over other products on the market. Skip the plate setter and get an Adjustable Rig or Woo with a pizza stone for indirect cooking.

Next purchase would be...https://www.thermoworks.com/Thermapen-Mk4
Next would be a good pair of Welding gloves for removing hot items and racks.
I grabbed these at Home Depot. Great fit and feel.

Then cook for a few months before you buy a bunch of stuff you don't need.Thank you,DarianGalveston Texas -
If just one thing, it would be a toss between the ThermaPen and a lump lighter like the LooftLighter. The easier it is to light the egg and the easier it is to get the desired results the more you will enjoy using it.
Dang - can't pick between them, get both, you won't regret it. I also second the vote on the welding gloves. -
A ThermaPen and a propane torch for lighting the lump. Get some decent charcoal too.Michiana, South of the border.

Beer and bourbon.Belleville, Michigan
Just burnin lump in Sumpter -
Conveggtor, ash tool, looftlighter, maybe a cover...
That being said, I agree with Photo Egg. The stuff at CGS is top notch and very versatile. Nice choice on the XL too! -
I fell for the same deal and got a cover - never use it.
Thermapen is a must have.
Just got a Woo and love it. If you go that route, skip the platesetter and get a couple of half stones - much more flexibility.

From an egg dealer I would simply get an ash tool and grid lifter. I am sure there are other places to get things like these, but I use mine all the time. Wish that I hadn't bought the platesetter, mine has been under the car port unused for almost seven years. I got an adjustable rig and stones from Ceramic Grill Store and the rig rarely leaves my egg. If you get the platesetter (conveggtor) then get a ps woo from CGS.Nerk Ahia LBGE

Thermapen from the manufacturers website if I only got one item to start, changed all my cooking, know your internal temps and you will look like a pro. Welcome and enjoy. Save some money for your second Egg...Northern New Jersey

Welcome. Buy a smokeware cap before the egg. Sell the daisy wheel and snuff cap out of the egg box on ebay as brand new.
Thermapen, welding gloves, disposable gloves, ceramic grill rig ( not platesetter from bge), drip pan, a roll of comercial foil, 16" oxo tongs, a couple pieces of cast iron, remote thermo such as the smoke. I'd say these are the basics. Have fun.

Get the platesetter and ash tool to go with your XL then fire that baby up. After you use it for a while you can better determine what else you may “need”. The XL has lots of real estate to work with and should get you by as is, before adding accessories for some time. Enjoy your new egg.

Just go ahead and call Tom at The Ceramic Grill Store and order up the Woo, stones and AR for your XL. It will be the best value for your money over the years to come.

Thermapen is a must.

Pizza stone is nice to have. I know some people don’t like the CI grate. I got it as a gift and really like it.Pittsburgh, PA. LBGE

+1 on the Themapen. I had a couple of similar instant read thermometers, none of them can hold a candle to the Thermapen. I also agree with the others that have said get a Woo and 2 1/2 stones. That setup will do everything the platesetter can do and more, love mine. I have the ash tool and shovel and do find that to be a useful tool.XL Central Ohio

+1 on pig tail flipper
it is a bge product and it is great for quickly flipping many small itemsLarge, Medium, MiniMax, 36" Blackstone

My only real suggestion - is to be wise with your cash. BGE Accessories are expensive, no matter the 'so called' discount.
Once the BGE 'fever' hits, it hits hard.
I have so much crap i just had to have, that now collects dust in my garage, including a (Then) $300 Joetisserie ... money down the drain ...

Welcome aboard and enjoy the upcoming journey. Above all, have fun.
Good luck with your quest to manage the spending with accessories. You need a quick read thermo and a way to cook indirect. Many ways to get there as noted above. You have the luxury of time on your side to sort thru this. FWIW-Louisville; Rolling smoke in the neighbourhood. # 38 for the win. Life is too short for light/lite beer! Seems I'm livin in a transitional period. -
As you must have noticed, most of the suggestions are not BGE items. There are many aftermarket companies that are forum favorites. A 15% discount off of BGE list might bring prices down to what you would pay at one of the aftermarket places.
i I suggest buying very little to start with. Figure out what you need as you go rather than buying stuff that sits around collecting dust.
A Thermapen is an excellent choice (I have one and love it), but I also have a Lavatools instant read for $45 that performs as well as the T-pen for half the price. I just got it a month or two ago, but so far it's great! Backlit and rotating display too.

Welder's gloves are a must as well.
And I LOVE my pigtail flippers!!! Just bought a set recently and am kicking myself for waiting so long.I hate it when I go to the kitchen for food and all I find are ingredients!

very few regret the thermapen purchase, start there. i went maybe 10 years with a drip pan, a grid raised above the felt line and some firebricks. no plate setter and was cooking as well as most with everything. eventually you drift to the ceramic grill store, great quality, great products

forgot to mention the Kick ash basket, one of the best items I have.
