A friend of mine pointed something out today, and I may get banninated for mentioning it but it got me thinking.
There's been a lot of discussion in the news about the bomber's life/background, "They were such nice neighbors", "They always attended their religious services", "He was a quiet, polite kid", "What pain he must have been in", etc.

How many of those stories would be circulating had the bomber's name been "Ahkmed"?
    Vanilla ISIS, indeed.   :|

Actually the same stories circulated when it was a Muslim pulling the trigger. Families and neighbors are usually sympathetic.

    We know how this works.

Both.  Probably in this case more 1 than 2.  But doesn't matter.

I start with Reuters. They seem to be the most apolitical of all the news sources. I will usually end up at The Guardian for international news. You guys think our media ignores stories, go to the guardian.com and you will invariably say, what? I had no idea. The international stories that we aren’t aware of is mind boggling.
You may be surprised to know (or not), that The Guardian is an openly partisan Left of centre newspaper. UK centre, which is already way Left of US centre, apart from budget deficits where it seems everyone is a Leftie these days. I read The Guardian (and The Times) so I'm not downing it, but it's not unbiased.

He's pretty left of center anyway so...

I did one smart thing in 2017.  I took a vacation day when James Comey gave his congressional testimony, and watched it carefully (no newspaper or computer in my lap, or other distractions).  I then set my DVR to record the hour following the testimony on Fox, CBS, and PBS, and while those were recording I watched CNN live (my DVR can only record 3 channels at once).

I watched all four "responses", after having watched the testimony with my own eyes, and it was very worth the time.  It confirmed some beliefs I held about them, and a surprise or two.  I suggest everyone try this; say, when Robert Mueller does his testimony, sometime this year (hopefully).

I had also relied on Time magazine over the years (after Newsweek went all digital) but recently the conglomerate that owns Time and (iirc) three other magazines was purchased by the Koch brothers, for $650M!!  The Kochs are industrial barons, not media moguls, and anyone involved with media know that the print media is going down the tubes and not a great investment.  Sure enough, the Editor in Chief was replaced almost immediately, and Time is already starting to list badly to the right.  The scary part is I'm running out of "trusted" news sources, and don't quite know where to turn anymore.
