Pizza Night

This is my 1st time making pizza. I have the plate setter in the Woo and the pizza stone on the extension rack up in the dome. I can’t seem to get the egg above 300 degrees. Been preheating for almost an hour. Any ideas as to what’s taking so long, or is this normal?

Try moving the lump around. Small lump pieces might be clogging the fire grate holes

How big is your pizza stone? Is it restricting air flow around it?

It’s. 15” stone. I think part of the issue was not enough lump. I read somewhere you don’t want to put as much in because it can restrict airflow so being a noob I figured that was accurate. Guess not

Decided to cut my losses and take out the Woo and extension rack and just cook on stone directly on plate setter legs down. Got to temp in about 2 minutes. Seems like this was a case where maybe I just had too much metal and ceramic and it was in fact cutting off airflow.

Make sure you get a air gap between the plate setter and pizza stone. Your bottom of your pizza will finish way before your top has a chance to finish

Correct on the lump. You can load it up to the fire ring

Pizza can be tricky depending on the type of dough your using, the amount of red sauce, etc.  Great first attempt.

Any road will take you there if you don't know where you're going.

You can use foil balls. You can also buy some terra cotta feet at Home Depot if you were to use the same setup. I use a similar setup but I have some old BGE feet.

Pizza looks great but you need more lump. You should start with atleast the firebox full or even a little more for a pizza cook. I can see the lower grate in your pic your lump is almost burnt out when you put the pizza on.

First attempt at scratch made pizza. Fresh homemade dough and sauce. Made 3 pizzas and a dessert pizza.  Sausage, pepperoni, & basil. Pepperoni. Sausage and pepperoni. And cinnamon dessert.

Forget the perfect circle. Asymmetric pies taste way better :)

1st pie looked good, but the later ones kicked it up a notch.
