I would agree on being sick as well. This one walked up into my back yard a couple weeks ago.
Also Ron there are bob cats in the area too. Buddy of mine pulled this off of his trail cam out at Oak Run.

It's good to see more predators around, compared to prior. For a while, it seemed like cars on the interstate where the only things preying on deer.

An update to an old thread that received some questions and opinions.
A neighbor of mine across the street from me has a license and hunts deer. He too had seen this buck and shot it down in a deep ravine behind his home. I never told him about this debate, but he told me how good this buck was! His only problem was carrying the carcass up the deep 55 foot ravine behind his home. -

Deer didn't look sick to me....just emaciated from the rut. Thread started in December and makes total sense. I've seen deer in September that you wouldn't recognize by Christmas except for their antlers. Glad your neighbor got him. Looks like a nice buck.
